1 year anniversary! (1st week in June)

Hi all,
You may (or may not) have noticed, the first week in June is the week we
held our first official hackspace evening. We seem to have managed to keep
going for an entire year!
Some sort of celebration is in order, how about we escape from the dungeon
(er, basement) for an evening (or a different day) and convene somewhere

Talks? PCB design / mfgr? SMT soldering? Stellar cartography?

Mini Helicopters

Hi all,

Does anyone know anything about diagnosing / fixing mini rc helicopters?

I have one similar to this (1) and it used to fly pretty well (the pilot
wasn't very good, but thats another story!) But these days it will
barely lift itsself off the ground even with a fully charged battery.

First off, introduction. I moved to the area (ish) a few months ago. I'm an
active member of Reading hackspace already, and love
tinkering/making/hacking/creat ing. I work in TV and am avid about 3D

Has the hackspace or anyone else got a use for:
i) Widerange RC signal generator - Marconi TF1370 - this is valve
technology. I have powered it up and it looks as if the controls need some
cleaning.
ii) Old power supply - this was specced to deliver 27.5V at 10Amps (Used in
pairs to power the ILS at Heathrow!). I suspect the main smoothing

We're going to try out the Sunday hackspaces.. Remember that we need to get
an idea of attendance and payment on Wednesday 17th in order for this to

The main circular element of Steve's design, to my mind, is the none-toothed diameter. Steve adjusted the sizes so the ratios should be consistent with the original, but I haven't checked since we had that discussion (it won't be far out though).

Logo art

Got back onto the thread earlier this evening. Thought I'd throw this into the mix as an more contemporary alternative route for a Swindon logo and some ways it flexible and mutable in different media and for member icons.

I think this route will work for a logo and as an implemation system across web, print collateral and printable 3d.

Lathe

Damian has very kindly offered to locate his metalworking lathe at the
hackspace (it's a Hobbymat, same as mine!). Very nice machine, capable of
accurate work. We are looking at locating it in the storeroom, building a
workbench where the grey stationery cupboard currently is. It's not a big
machine (~40kg) but still capable of inflicting some damage if used

A short post to suggest that it’d be great if someone skilled in digital art could design a logo for us. :)

Since using the generic hackspace logo with a different colour doesn’t seem too scalable - I was thinking we could have the same fat diagonal ‘H’ design, but made from (or incorporating) the tracks from a PCB layout.
