Bradford on Avon Swift group decided to have a paper petition on Swift bricks on our various stalls as they can sometimes be more effective than online ones. We got a good number of signatures and sent it to our MP (Brian Mathew, MP for Devizes and Melksham) and just received the following heartening reply

Dear Rowena

Many thanks for your card and petition from the Bradford on Avon Swift and House Martin Group.

I am very heartened to receive it and will write to the Minister to say I have been petitioned by constituents in Bradford on Avon on this subject and ask what progress the government is making.

I have also signed a parliamentary Early Day Motion on this, which you can read here:  https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/63437/securing-habitat-for-endangered-swifts-and-other-cavity-nesting-birds

You might be interested to hear that a few years ago I rescued a young swift that had fallen from its nest and drove it to the RSPCA rescue centre near Cricklade where I saw it being well restored to health!

I’ll let you know when I get a response from the minister.

Best wishes

Brian
