Hi,

I have a client who enabled this annoying option to have firefox ask
if you want to enable flash player everytime you start firefox.

And of course when he doesn't click enable he gets the message of my
swfobject that he hasn't the most recent version of flash player.

Does anyone now if there is an option to detect if flash player is
disabled in firefox and then show another html id showing different
content to warn that they are using firefox and their flash player is
disabled? Also it might be handy if it were possible to add a button
for enabling flash player through javascript.

Anybody experience on this?

Thanks.
Steven

Steven.

You might be able to use the callback function to see if the swf has been successfully written to the page to differenciate, but I am thinking that if the alt content is being displayed, that the browser is reporting that NO flash player exists, in which case there is not way to tell the difference between your client's extension and a browser with no flash installed.

At least he is getting the alt content, and knows that he needs to enable Flash to see the content - doesn't seem like a bad outcome to me :)

No, there is no way (through swfobject or js) to "turn on" a plug-in with a button in a web page. This would open up a huge security hole! ( I am thinking that you too would not like a remote website to be able to arbitrarily execute code / instructions on your machine :)
