STAGE FOUR IS IN THE RECORD BOOKS!
Happy Birthday Larry Shannon!
I overheard someone say we should ride this course every weekend, and I only wish that was possible. It’s a great course, and I’m already looking forward to our next visit.
Stage 4 had some fast friends show up, like Larry Shannon and Brett Clare, and so it was a tough day for series leader Steve Masterson. Dressed entirely in black (thus the “Mr. Evil” moniker) Steve could not keep good guy, and stylishly-attired, Jeremy Preston from taking top honors on the day. Jeremy’s stage 4 victory brings the overall points lead within his grasp. So, going into the final stage Steve, Jessie Mindlin, and Jeremy are separated by only 8 points.
In B group, Matt Sparks took his wounded ribs to a Las Vegas rave, leaving Lamont Loy to dominate stage 4. When the pace wasn’t being set by Herb Lowe or David Jurist, Lamont was almost always on the front. He really deserved the win Sunday. But the surprise of the day was Louis Casillas who placed second in his first appearance in the series this year. If Louis had ridden the prior stages we may have had a little more drama. But at this point it’s mathematically down to Matt Sparks and Lamont Loy for the B group championship. Matt and Lamont are separated by only 2 points going into the final stage!
For the C group, Molly Kidd, Susan Hollander, and David Jurist started with the B group, and things soon sorted themselves out, with David proving that in spite of his protestations he does not belong in the C group. For the first 4 laps David took a bunch of hard turns on the front of the B group, and when he finally decided he had enough the women had already developed a race among themselves. Molly had the better day, although I think Susan is not 100% yet after her accident. The end result on the day is that Molly put the series championship in the bag. Nobody can catch her with one stage remaining.
After event door prizes winners received a 1-hour massage from Loy Chiropractic Arts, and PostureCue shirt from Intelliskin, ProCompression socks, and a bunch of Scratch Labs secret drink mix. And keep in mind that the points series champs will also win Osiris shoes, Kali helmet, and Skratch Labs drink mix to sweeten the victory. We’re very grateful to have these sponsors supporting the club series.
