June 04, 2007, Update Regarding Pigeon Lake Wastewater Strategy Public Information Meetings (Presentations)

WITH REGARD TO RECENT MEETINGS PRESENTING THE STATUS OF THE WASTEWATER SRATEGY STUDY

All (6) meetings held in the Pigeon Lake area were very well attended. Average attendance was
approximately 100 per session with two approaching 150 attendees.

Judging from the participant survey forms received to date and the
comments during the question periods and after the meetings adjourned,
they were very well received. The most common comment was that the
meetings were very informative and helped people a great deal in
understanding the components of a wastewater system and the many options
within each component.

A very high level assessment of the common themes that need to be dealt
with as the study proceeds were:

1) More detailed information on the costs of the system, especially the
costs that individual property owners may be expected to pay for the
private collection system on their properties.

2) The cost implications for the public collection system, the regional
system and the wastewater treatment facilities.

3) The timelines for implementation and a strong desire for many that we
move quickly to start implementation of the system.

4) Support for phasing in the system and a welcoming attitude by many
that holding tanks and haulage are acceptable in the interim.  There was
also a surprising feeling that most did not want to count on truck haul
long-term due to price risk, road damage, etc.

5) Acceptance that creating or expanding the wastewater treatment
facilities is a logical and necessary first step, because then the
municipalities can implement the legislation to ban outhouses and
on-site disposal fields.

6) Some still questioning the relative impact of the human wastewater on
lake water quality and whether improved wastewater management will
improve/protect conditions.
