A while back I purchased an aftermarket shield for my DL650 on the basis of an article I read in Rider. I was asked to report  my thoughts but I never got in enough riding to form a firm impression as the riding season slammed shut up here in the land of the banana slug. Well, I've gotten in enough riding now to conclude that I'm removing the new shield (sorry, I can't remember the manufacturer other than it's a company that makes airplane canopies) and replacing the original. I'm willing to put up with the buffeting in order to be able to see the road ahead clearly and safely. At night the replacement shield is absolutely deadly for me as the instrument panel reflection is very distracting and, in the daytime, I'm looking partly through the upper section of the shield and it's distortion is just enough to pose a potential threat. I bought the shorter of their two windshields as I'm 5'8" and shrinking and even on the lower mounting it's too tall for me. On the plus side there is less buffeting but by no means is buffeting eliminated.
This shield might work for someone taller but not for me. If anyone is interested in making it work for them, make me an offer as it will be sitting in my garage all swathed in bubble wrap.

Hey Don-

It was the Cee Bailey Perfect Strom shield.

Are you running a MadStad bracket?  I have found that to be the best single investment I made in my WeeStrom.  Gives you lots of windshield adjustment, lower and tilted back as well as higher.

I am running a MadStad bracket, stock shield with a Laminar Lip installed and am pretty happy with it.

Rob

Thanks Rob, I appreciate the information. I remember reading about the brackets and thought they sounded like a good idea. However, my misspent youth is making me pay the price as I have passed the 3/4 century mark and I don't know how many rides I have left in me so I'm probably not going to be putting farkle money into my Strom. I'll see how I fare on my annual September ride and then figure where to go from that point.

I don't suppose you took any pictures of it, did you?

Will,
Yeah, I have some pics somewhere in my files. Send me your address offline
and I'll send you a couple. I did some monkeying around with the Bailey
shield today to see if any adjustments would improve it so I guess I'm not
quite ready to give up on it....yet.
