My old Yamaha RX-A3000 got fried by a lightning strike, so I had to replace it.  In the process I learned that Yamaha dropped support for HD Radio, which for me is worthwhile, that steered me to buying the Denon 6300H.

I got a few issues with the Denon, but primarily the biggest PITA is it won't playback 4 channel audio from my PC via WASAPI.  It does play monural, stereo, 5 channel and 6 channel audio without issue (and plays QUAD DVD-As), but four channel PC audio plays in stereo. It sounds like the rear channels are being mixed with the front channels.  The AVR shows both four channels in and four channels out, but the rear speakers are definitely silent.

I've been through all the PC and AVR settings that I can think of with out success.  I never had this problems with the Yamaha.

Just curious if anyone has insight or similar experience, or better yet a solution.

John

PS - Let me know if anyone is interested in parting out the Yamaha RX-A3000.

I also have a Yamaha Rx2065 which currently the HDMI port number three doesn’t do a full handshake so my video and audio don’t show up. Lots of sparklies and the machine trying unsuccessfully to initiate the handshake. Should I try cleaning the port or do you guys have any other tricks for restoring the HDMI port? I’m thinking maybe dust?

Don't blame your stereo yet.  What software are you using on your computer?  For example, some quad FLAC's play only stereo using Foobar for me (although it shows 4-channels).  But Jriver plays the same files correctly at 4-channels.  This problem happened when I upgraded to the exaSound DAC with the ASIO driver.  Before, I used an Oppo 105 with HDMI and Foobar played it fine.  With Foobar, some Quad's play perfectly while others are only in stereo.  I don't blame Foobar, I think it's the ASIO drivers.  In your case, it may be the WASAPI.  Try using Jriver or another software and check the results.

Heads up folks, finally got a call into Denon about this playback issue.

Per their technical support, the Denon 6300H, their flagship $1600 AVR, only supports 2 channel FLAC files.  I was shocked to hear that, and not happy.  Frankly not sure if its just pure BS.  Seems like BS since this unit plays all other FLACs (stereo, 5 channel & 6 channel), just not 4 channel.

They claimed this limitation is in their manual, but I could not find any reference to it. This will be my first and last Denon unit.  :^(

Now in process of converting all my quad sounds to 5.1, PITA!

That'd odd because my Denon (AVR-4311ci) certainly plays 4ch PCM files  (either from a DVD-A disc player,  or decoded on the fly from FLAC files by foobar2k on my laptop)

Four little channel icons light up, as expected.

I get the four channel icons to light up too (both input and output), but alas, no sound from the rear.   Unfortunately it too late for me to return it.
