I have a couple SACDs like that...Aimee Mann mounts (unlike most sacd's) and displays the same thing you are seeing.  While I haven't tried playing them in a software player, I can confirm that if you are using this for backup purposes, using the resultant ISO and burning it to disc will produce an SACD that can be played in players like the Oppo.  I haven't tried a software player for these as they tend to sound better through the oppo.  I can just confirm that some SACDs look like that and they will burn correctly.  I don't know how well they would do in a software player since they seem to use a much different file system than almost every other SACD on the market.  You might want to check on Computer Audiophile and post to SACD ripping part 2 and ask the folks if you can extract the DSF or DFF files from these kinda discs.  I can just confirm that I've been able to mount only a couple and they show up with a TOC and such.  The others won't mount at all.  Not sure that helps but you're not crazy...

Hi all,

I looked around and asked at some of the forums but didn't get a response so I'll try here. The E.T. Extra Terrestrial SACD iso I have is in a different form, foobar spits it out and my image mounter VCD reads it as UDF, unlike other isos that don't read in Windows. There are TOC files and folders 2CH and MCH with more TOC files and .2ch and .mch files (in the corresponding folder). Not sure what to do with it at this point, would love to check it out but not sure what to do. Thanks in advance!

I tried to get a response for why they would have different file systems for different discs (The one I am thinking of has TOC for stereo and MC but the disc itself is strictly stereo!!) and everyone insisted you can't mount SACDs yadda yadda yadda.  Clearly there are a few that can be mounted.  Anyway I never got a satisfactory response but again they should at least burn fine as a disc.

August you seem to be replying to some unidentified thread, but you
have started a new thread and your comments seems therefore out of
place/orphaned some how.
Can you try to attach your reply to the thread you are replying to?
Otherwise, thank you for your input.

It was in reply to this...it came in my inbox under surround sound...this is what I responded to.

thanks for the response. i can't do SACD-Rs as I don't have a compatible player, but I finally got an answer and I am able to extract the DSF or DFF files and play them in foobar. Learn something new daily...now I'm familiar with this other structure for SACD. cheers!

AFAIK there was only one Scarlet Book standard for SACDs so it's a mystery why some discs are authored differently than others.  Suppose it doesn't matter if you can extract the info but it is sorta weird there are only a few that mount and look like this.  For the most part I would say that if you can find the converted files for the music you are listening to on HDtracks they tend to sound a bit better to my ears than the DSD to PCM on the fly.  If you can play them natively (or sorta natively) they tend to sound better as SACDs.  YMMV of course.  On the fly does work but I think the HD stuff that comes from DSD sounds a bit better than conversion on the fly.

for basic listening purposes I'm actually just running foobar through optical so it's very converted but ok for casual listening. those that I really want to hear the uptick in quality I'll convert to AVCHD with DTS-HD, still not DSD but as good as imagonnaget. thanks for the info.
