What a Great Group!

Hello everyone!  Glad to find this group.  I'm one of those hi-rez surround fans and tremendously enjoy 24x96 multi-channel flac files as well as dsd/iso type files.  I have about 30-40 discs which I have personally ripped (yes, I have a PS3/3.55) and keep on my music server at home.  This is very important to me as I use random/shuffle to play various types of music continuously without having to change discs (kinda like making a mix tape in the old days!).  

My problem is that most of this great music is out of print and is very expensive through e-bay.  I'm not supporting anyone in the music industry by paying high e-bay prices other than the lucky e-bay seller!  It's tough to show support to the music industry when such few titles are released every year, but I do my best to purchase retail when possible.  

I am a member of "what" - and their list of surround music is commendable.  My issue is that they don't allow dsd/iso files.  They have to be converted to flac.  There are too many issues with this as many people don't convert from dsd to flac properly.  Low output levels and the dsd to pcm "clicks" and distortion are just some examples.   

Hoping one day I'll be able to hub with you :-)

How does one obtain membership to 'What'?

BTW, what platform are you on, PC/Mac? What software do you use to play your audio?

I have received correspondence from one person about the hub, but nothing has been confirmed yet.  "What" membership is either through an invite or an interview/test.  Unfortunately, I'm a new member to What and don't have the privileges to award invites yet (I need a higher rank!).  Personally, I joined by taking their test.  You chat with them via IRC and answer questions.  All the info you need is here:

"What" is a great place for 2-channel audio.  Their list of multi-channel audio is growing.  However, they don't allow DSD files, so everything has to be converted to PCM.  

I use a Windows 7 computer with Foobar.  This way, I can play ISO files directly from Foobar without any conversion.

I've been able to play DSD using J.River Media Center and/or Foobar without converting to PCM by converting to DSF.

BTW, I don't know who controls access to the Hub anymore. It might be Lokkerman. When I joined, I completed a lengthy questionnaire proving that I was an enthusiast willing to share and not someone trying to catch people pirating content.
