Hi - I'm new to this group, and have followed this guide step by step.
I have just used DVDFab to create an ISO file for a Linkin Park DVD-
Audio disc. When moving on to the "Create MDS File..." part I opened
the INI file that accompanied the ISO file. This reads...
[ISO]
Files=LINKIN_PARK.iso
LayerBreak=-1090512639

When I enter this I am told that the number needs to be a multiple of
16. The only way I could enter the entire LayerBreak number, by the
way, was to remove the "-" sign. What am I doing wrong?

Wow. The ini file created by DVDFab gives -1090512639 as the layer break???

It should be a positive integer and multiple of 16, all layer breaks are
always a multiple of 16. And definitely no minus sign in front of it!

This is weird. Try an earlier version of DVDFab, like anything within the v5
range. Assuming you are using v6, i.e. And then see if the INI file created
by the earlier version is also a muffed up one. I've never seen this before
:S.

When I created an ISO for Pet Sounds DVD-A, DVDFab gave a layer break
of 1604460289. Too large a number and not a multiple of 16. I even
ripped it a second time and got the same layer break.

No minus sign the second time?

Did you try an earlier (and thus possibly non buggy) version?

If so then the next step is to see if the disc has big scratches on it and
it's not extracting the LB properly or something :S...I would go to the
DVDFab forums and ask for the experts' help there...no disc would have that
layer break, it's far too big a number anyway, I think.

Also others who have the original DVD-A could rip it and see what their LB
is? Maybe a dvdfab rip of it is already on the hub too. I think I have it
though guess what just happened, my Lacie external HDD with my 1TB
collection of rock DVD-A rips just seemed to either die on me or do
something similar to what another lacie NAS did for me a year ago which i
still haven't taken out the raw HDDs and laboriously repaired yet
(lovely!!!!), so I can't easily find a copy of it myself.

The layer break I have for this disc is 1638592. I ripped it using
dvdfab, not sure which version at the time.

Seems to be a Win7 issue:

Thanks arn!!...I hope that's it - we'll have to keep watching I guess and
see what the outcome is. If the admin isn't convinced soon we'll have to
chime in and test ourselves and add our voices to the existence of this bug
and lobby for a fix :P

Interesting. I run Win7 x64 Home Premium.

The layer break for the DVD-A side was a positive number both times
but very large: LayerBreak=1604460289
The layer break reported on the DVD-Video side is a negative number:
LayerBreak=-273475839

I've checked a few others I've ripped and they also give erroneous
layer breaks, for instance PT Deadwing: LayerBreak=-1076421119

Does this happen to W7x64U, too? I'll check it if nobody has yet done.

I just checked some DVD-As that I had 'cloned' via DVDFab on my
Win7x64 Home Premium machine - I have the same problem as described by
the others in this thread.

Augh!!!! I recently spent a *lot* of time ripping my commercial DVD-
A collection...now I'm a sad panda.

Brilliant - at least we have reproduced the problem to confirm it, now if we
want this fixed make a post in that thread and lobby lobby lobby :P.

I don't have this original, so I haven't ripped this disk myself, but
downloaded it. The layerbreak in the downloaded .ini file is 2073472.

I have the same problem with version 6 of DVDFab and Win 7- 64bit home
premium. Getting silly big numbers.

It's not possible to run Win7 in XP Compatibility Mode for DVDFab?

Hi, all

I am trying unsuccessfully to follow the direction to backup my
valuable DVD-Audio collection. The ripping to ISO and burning work OK,
however when I try the playback of DVD-Audio tracks in half minute the
screen shows "copyright lock" and nothing can be done. I tried to
search Internet for the solution, but in vain...

Someone can help me.

Sincerely, Narayan

Hi Narayan,

Check out the these two links, especially the part about watermark
protection...
---------------------------
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Audio#Copy_protection
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_watermarking
---------------------------

Although we can now get around the CPPM protection and rip DVD-Audio
discs, any copies/backups that are made will still have the watermark
protection if it was present on the orginal. Copies/backups that have
the watermark will only play for 15 or 30 seconds on DVD-Audio players
that check for it, unfortunately it appears yours does.

There is a page here about how to check if a DVD-Audio disc has
watermark:
---------------------------
http://groups.google.com/group/surroundsound/web/how-to-check-if-a-dvd-a-is-watermarked
---------------------------

There are DVD-Audio players that do not perform watermark check:
---------------------------
http://groups.google.com/group/surroundsound/web/list-of-dvd-a-players-and-their-watermarking-status
---------------------------

Thanks a lot.

There are decryptors like DVDARipper.exe that works with WinDVD 5/6/7
but I could never make it work.

There were a lot of decrypted DVD-A on Mojave before it died... I have
even downloaded some and burnt without a problem.

Thanks for your help.

The point of my original question was what's the point of using DVDFab
and what's the point in this discussion of "on guide-for-ripping-dvd-a-
or-dvd-v-to-iso" when it is impossible to play the ripped DVD-As???

There is a simple way around this:

Get yourself a player that does not observe the watermarks

Alternatively use a PC and either Foobar to play back these ISO's or convert to another format such as flac
