As most of you probably already know by now, desertrat finally got fed
up and shut down both the blog and Mojave Productions. This is a HUGE
loss to the surround sound community, and I want to be the first to
give my deepest thanks to desertrat for all the time, effort, and
loving care he out into it. I can't blame him for his frustration, but
I hope he will change his mind and resuscitate at least Mojave
Productions, his releases were always top notch, and will be sorely
missed.

THANK YOU DESERTRAT!!!!! Long live Mojave! :)

Mojave was, to many, the door to a new world of music. Millions of
thanks would not represent the importance of the work of Desertrat to
this expanding "niche". But, anyway: THANK YOU.

EDU BH phrased better than I could, but I have to add my own personal "thank you" to DR for all his work. It WAS appreciated, valued, and inspiring.

And yes it's absence is a significant loss for the community.

Wow! This is a shocker.

DR has done great work in both doing conversions and getting them out
there. He is owed a debt of gratitude from the surround community, for
sure. I am sure it took tons of time just to keep that place going,
not to mention the job he did on the "presentation". I looked great.

Thanks DR, you and the MJ will be surely missed.
Your work was truly appreciated.

This sucks beyond belief. I am devastated. I have worshiped the Mojave
site and the wealth of releases presented there. Desertrat is a
pioneer but evidently and unfortunately his accomplishments have been
under-appreciated and praises unsung. It is with deep regret that only
now as he is leaving am I taking the time to thank him for the
remarkable and truly one of a kind quad releases he has offered us.
With his blog I saw a rebirth of the quadraphonic format and the
releases I loved as a twenty-something music geek in the seventies. I
can only hope one of us can pick up the baton and continue the type of
technically sophisticated, well researched quadraphonic conversions he
created with the utmost skill. I would but I have not one ounce of
technical knowledge or ability. I 'm only really good at listening.
Thanks for taking me back to my youth, desertrat.

Well, this are really bad news. As you all, mojave productions was the
door to the surround sound for me and a group of friends. I'm from
Chile, and here the surround titles almost never arrive, so thanks to
desertrat I was able to enjoy tons of amazings albums in surround. So
thank you desertrat for all the work!! And thank you to all the
uploaders also, you made a really good community.

P.D 1: Sry but i didn't get the reasons why the blog is over. Can
somebody explain me?

P.D 2: Why erase all the post? I am still downloading some files from
rapidshare, so I think it will make no harm to let the links up for a
while.

I remember the day I discovered the Mojave blog. Struck like lightning
and it felt like a new world opened for me. Now I'm equally stunned,
in the sad way, of course. But that's internet, things evolve and so
do the persons behind it too. My thoughts right now go to DesertRat
whom I truly hope can find the way beyond whatever frustration and
problems that has brought about the decision. For me, and I think for
many others, the blog has been a really extraordinary phenomenon. To
be remembered as something very important for surround sound and fpr
the surround sound community. DR, I hope you very soon will reach the
point where the predominant feeling is pride of what was achieved by
MojaveProductions and its contributors.

Kudos

This is just amazing... I accidentally found this LESS THAN ONE WEEK
AGO... I felt like I was in heaven, finding release upon release that
I've been looking for for YEARS. He even took the time to repost
Headhunters for me (I actually just bought it on Ebay finally, after a
comment pointing me to the Japanese release -last- night!). I logged
in today to finish the download, then THIS.

Man, this is a dark day for me... I have no idea about the politics,
but after years of dealing with crappy upconverts (sorry, Toupsters, I
want original mixes), I found the MOTHERLOAD. I had dreams of every
Quad release streaming out, crazy Japanese releases that no one had
ever heard of... It was heaven, it lasted for me for only a few days,
and now I feel completely robbed of the good work of many, many of you
that contribute these releases.

God, this sucks... Desertrat, if there's a way of talking to you
directly, let me know... I'll wash your car for a few more of the
links you're still holding onto...

That sucks... yet I'm not sure I understand the issue yet.  You do what Mojave did to preserve the mixes, not for the kudos.  If you do it and do it well, the kudos will be there from genuinely appreciative people like myself and those who have written in this thread.  Fighting the copyright issue would be a very understandable reason on the other hand.

At any rate...  Thanks as always to Desertrat... and I hope to see more quad from him down the line.

Hi all,

I just want to express my gratitude to Desertstrat 4 the enormous,
gigantic and so underrated work he did...

I'm so sad, because, as many of you folks, I discovered the world of
surround with Mojave... and now that I'm back after nearly a year
out... I discover I cannot have anymore my "sourround pills"... and
this is not an ego-trip 4 me! I astonished many of friends by making
them rediscover their preferred records through this "oasis of
sound"...

Peace to you Deserstrat and all at the Mojave staff.

Hope that this adventure will continue from one way or another.

Having just filled in an application for the, uh, "virtual space", I
can even thank DesertRat for having a public site that allowed me to
find this group!

I spent years frustrated with 5.1 Toup mixes on the newsgroups,
excitedly finding that some release was simply no better than hitting
ProLogic on my receiver, just a bit nerdier. I looked with awe at
those of you who pioneered the resurrection of vintage quad mixes,
=real= mixes (descrete or otherwise) from a forgotten era of sound
releases. I cajoled friends about these amazingly nerdy and delicious
audio artifacts, the fact that some would even go through the trouble
of creating homemade DVD-A, with menus, multiple mixes... Man,
glorious.

Then, a week ago, looking for the Joni record that I didn't have in
Quad (Hissing... already, of course, own the CD, the Vinyl), I
stumbled accidentally upon mojave via a text file embedded in another
release from another public site.

So, long story short, it's clear that such public, no-login-required
access to RS feeds isn't going to be around forever. But, I will be
forever grateful for the time that I -did- get to pull down GIGS of
music in the last few days, stuff I had been looking out for for
literally years.

Mojave will be missed, reluctantly deleted it from my favorites list.
Everyone gets burnt out from time to time, and it does take very thick
skin to run a website. Hopefully he'll be re-energized at some point
after taking a break. Sometimes we all forget to say "thank you" and
take things for granted like the Mojave blog, demonoid, etc. Thanks
desertrat for all the releases there and on the noid.

I haven't posted for a while. I hope desertrat reads this as I express
my many thanks for his hard work. I can understand a little what it's
like. I am a pro guitar player. My band does not have a keyboard
player. I record all keyboards, backing guitars, vocals, percussion.
etc. etc. at my home studio. It takes days and weeks sometimes mixing,
listening, editing, getting it right and presenting only the best to
whomever may finally be listening. You only hope the work does not go
unnoticed or not taken for granted. I don't know desertrat personally
but I know he must have had the same mindset and labored to present
the music and the blog with the same care. So thank you once again!

In the past few days I basically was made aware of how at risk I was
by doing the blog and that's why I shut down the blog more than any
other reason, tho there are other reasons that added to it. I've been
doing the blog now for about one and half years (would have been 2 in
Feb) and this last round of stuff has just burned me out on it all. In
addition I've been doing this for even much longer before the blog -
it all just gets to you after awhile - just took me quite a bit longer
than some others.

Also in the last week or so I've been feeling better than I have in
years which means I am no longer tied to my PC like I was before - I
get to have my RL back now and I'm gonna take it :) Needless to say my
wife is happy that I did what I did as well - she never liked the
risks in the first place.

No need to explain the other stuff that contributed - it won't change
anything - the blog is not coming back.

Sorry for letting things simmer - but I just needed a few days for
things settle down in my mind before I tried to express my thoughts to
others.

The following link contains every links text file that I have on my
machine for those of you who still want to try and finish some things.
Some of the links will be dead - so use your link checker before
starting any dls (they have not been sorted - so there will be some
dups as well - use the one with the later date). The file itself will
be deleted next Monday morning and the rs files themselves I will let
them die on their own. The pass is the usual one.

While I'm not happy you've chosen to close the blog, I think allowing

Hi Desertrat,
Thanks for all the great music.
When I was a child and just heard that there was such a format called
Quad-
It was my dream to hear these gems, and I did not think it would even
be possible. (I was born in 1976... growing up in the eighties, in a
country in which I doubt there was even one quad setup...)
After that, when SACD came into the picture - my dream almost came
true, but still the number of releases was less than I hoped for...
And then one day I stumbled upon your site.
I cant even start to describe the joy I felt- Like a kid in a candy
store is not strong enough to describe it:)
So again, thanks for all the great quads, thanks for sharing, thanks
for bringing so much joy,
And of course, feel better!
That is more important than anything, even music :)
