Subject: Google Maps API
I was browsing through the various suggested ideas, and one of Python
foundation's ideas was a python API for google maps. As someone who has
enjoyed hacking a bit at google maps, and such, I'm greately
interested.

This would most probably a web API. An idea that came to mind is
connecting this with GIS and other cartographic applications, allowing
for the integration of external maps with google, similar to the way
those subway maps were injected using greasemonkey.

Does that sound like a good idea to apply with?

Mike.

Who would sponsor this?
PSF or Google?

Unfortuneatly, we can't approve that project as it is counter to the
terms of service for maps currently.

Just so you're aware, I've updated the Wiki
<http://wiki.python.org/moin/CodingProjectIdeas/PythonWebProgrammingIdeas>
to include a pointer to an existing very basic initial Google Map
Python API: <http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/libgmail/gmaps/>

Yeah, I saw that.  I love maps, mind you, but we can't do those until
the TOS changes on the site.

Alright. Thanks for the feedback.

I did remember something about some such "terms" and so forth.
Definitely too bad.

I'll have to think up something else brilliant, then. ;)
