I have seen many comments on similar topics but not exactly this.
I would like to copy a whole tree of files and folders with
full history into a new repository.
Reason: the branch has grown to be extremely huge and I want to split it
up into single small and handle-able components.
To say it:
Dumping the whole repository is something I would prefer not to do.

Did you read about svnadmin dumping and filtering ?
