Our Courts and EC have teeth

It is refreshing to hear about two acts of commonsense from the Indian
democratic machinery in the same week. First we had Election Commision
stop Arjun SIngh's antics until the conclusion of elections and
secondly, the Mumbai high court has overturned the moral policing
nonsense by granting a clean chit to the dance bars and allowing them
to reopen.

This should be a lesson to folks in the Maharashtra govt and elsewhere
in the country. Apparently, people don't have problem with fashion
shows and suggestive body language in Hindi movies but have a problem
with dance bars where people earn their livelihood more honestly than
the rotten folks elected chairs.

It is one week of improvement, one step closer to a maturity, another
shot in the arm for independent entities such as courts and The
Election Commision.

but still, Props, I feel Dance bars and prostitutions should be shut
down and there should be another form of reformation for women in such
profession, unless they are willingly doing it which I doubt..how would
u feel If men were forced in to prostitution ? I feel it's inhuman and
socially demeaning for women that such professions exist asa buisiness.

The transition from girls working at dance bars to other professions is
not an easy one. The government did not have the presence of mind to
think of alternatives for these people. They simply shut them down.
Where will these people earn their livelihood from?

I have not visited a dancebar myself but I believe they are not
prostitutes. They are probably modern day versions of Geishas. Geishas
were not prostitutes by the way, Geishas were treated with great
respect and adored as a model of feminine beauty. Of course, I am not
suggesting that the bar girls are being treated as such but I find it
cruel to deny someone of their livelihood. Some of these girls have
mouths to feed at home. They are not cheating or stealing are they?

[*] It is not the job of the government to tell people what they should
do with their life.
[*] The government assumes all girls working at bars are prostitutes
[*] Even if Govt comes up with some loophole and a reason to shut bars
down, it is stupid to shut them down without finding a way of
sustenance for these people who depend on these jobs to support their
families.

I know teh Geisha part..I have read and watched teh movie "Geisha"

but they are not actually Geisha's in Bomabay bars..have u watched
"Chandnibar"?

under the values of wesernization and exposure can anyone compar the
prostitution of yester years to today nah..

I m sure that you know about the prostitutes in India..during 40and
50's ..they were so highly regarded as intelligent, sexy women..not as
a piece of shyt..maybe the movie Utsav should shed some light about
this..
but now that has changed in this owrld of flesh trading...girls are all
for sale..even the bar girls..

I hope we will eventually educate men about *S** and eradicate this
profession.

much freedom and openess about sexuality..

All this is fine.But you know what is going to happen next.In the name
of dance bars especially under the new legality, people are going to
indulge in all kinds of illegal stuff.SO IMO it is almost futile to
come up with such reforms, for no matter how matured the governing body
is,the people are not educated and informed enough to handle it.
The same thing happened with legalizing liquor license.Also the ban on
nightlife [clubs and pubs] beyond 11:00 P.m on one hand and the night
shifts in BPO[along with the related horror tales of rape]completely
clash with each other.Instead of tightening police activities and
spending more on public safety, I feel that the government has a highly
misplaced sense of priorities.

No, I have not watched Chandni Bar. I know about Rekha in that
perennial role of dancing woman at parties where fat paunchy dingos
chewed pan and rolled like pigs on the floor. That is the closest
representation of Geishas in Indian cinema. Most of Indian movies used
bees landing on flower, waves lashing against sea shore, birds in
flight on a sunny day, happy flowers etc with the background music of
Veena to denote unmentionables for the unwashed masses.

OK, fine, girls are being sold, then find out who is exploiting them
and separate the prostitutes from the bar girls. Shutting down is not
the solution. At the end of the day, the government has no job to tell
people how to lead their lives.

You pose a question about sex education and answer it yourself. Thank
You. Prostitution is a transaction, and exists in the so called evolved
societies too. People go to prostitutes because they don't want to
invest emotions, time and money into women. It probably is like instant
coffee, microwavable pongal. Actually, the more financially independent
women get, the more choosy they get and in evolved societies this means
a lot of rejects and prolonged post-hookup stickiness. So in theory,
the evolution rating of a society has no bearing on why people visit
prostitutes.

Theoretically, prostitution is a legal activity. People are free to
choose what they want to do with their lives or how they want to earn a
living. The govt is stupid as it is, all they have to do is not
increase their stupidity levels. That is not too much to ask for. If
the govt maintains its stupidity rating, we should be good.

I agree with the theory of Pongal but for your microwavable pongal ,
women are getting traded like malgudi madarins in the hands of
masqueraders, you must and should watch "chandnibar" I insist before u
go any further on this issue.
and Rekha didnot do any dingbat role of prancing around in pancies with
doled out raunchy paunchies in Utsav...it's an astheically made movie..
anyway, I think women who accept prostitution as a profession maybe a
handful..
but most of them are herded from the borders of Nepal and other
extremly poverty striken places...I condemn forcinig anyone for
prostitution whatever maybe the reason for the trade to have existed
over the centuries..I feel it's kind of slavery which cannot be
tolerated in the future...
