Submissions Call - Issue 2
Stumptown Underground
Issue 2 - October
Submissions & Art Call

We are a new collective aiming to publish a monthly zine of various works (comics, writings, recipes, interactive activity lists, one-off drawings / pictures to color, reviews of all kinds, etc.) all centralized around a different theme each month. Our purpose in doing this monthly zine is to give ourselves and the people we solicit for submissions the opportunity to be inspired by monthly themes to create more!

We are ready to start taking submissions for "Lift Off" which will be centralized around the theme of flight.. The deadline goal for submissions for our second issue is September 23rd, but the earlier you submit, the better! We plan to have this issue all finished and the first 100 copies printed by October 3rd. Once your submission has been received and then approved, you will be notified and you will be listed as a contributor to Stumptown Underground in the issue (with a link to your site, if you'd like), of course, and online (again with a link, if you'd like).

What we need from you if your'e submitting:

- Your submission, of course! 5.5" x 8.5" (or a 2-page spread of 11" x 8.5")

          - Writing: PLEASE format your writing yourself. This will better represent you and your own, unique style in our issue. Do you really want your awesome story/review/recipe/whatever in Times New Roman? Yeah, exactly.
          - Art: All pieces will be considered for the cover (unless you ask us not to). Send us the highest resolution possible!
          - Comics: Send us the highest resolution possible!

- Your name and how you'd like to be listed in the issue / online.

- A link to your website for us to list in the credits!

- How long should your submission be? Well, try to have a goal of 2-3 pages in mind..

- Any and all submissions should be sent to stumptownunderground@gmail.com (as well as questions, comments, concerns, and props).

We will be providing all contributors with 2 printed copies of the issue they are in to do with as they please, giving them away to all our friends, and selling issues to zine carrying stores and at whatever conventions we go to (Portland Zine Symposium, Stumptown Comics fest, Olympia Comics Festival, etc), price TBD (based on how big the issue end up being) to keep continuing publications by Stumptown Underground. We will also be making all issues available online!

Please share this submissions call with any creative folks you know. We want each issue of Stumptown Underground to be diverse and inclusive.. And to inspire as many as we can to get creating more.

We have meetings once or twice a week, not everyone always attends, to hash out ideas, work on our own submissions to the issues, etc. Any potential contributor is welcome  to attend, just ask us when our next meeting might be! Also, we plan on ustreaming most these sessions.

Not all the core members of Stumptown Underground currently live in Portland and we rather like it that way. Out-of-town core members (like those in town) take on the responsibility of printing, assembling and distributing copies of each issue, too. So, all our hard work gets to be shared with more people! If you're interested in becoming an organizing member of Stumptown Underground, send us an email!

Thanks for reading and thanks for you consideration, we hope you are inspired to submit!

                                                        With respect,

                                                                Stumptown Underground

P.S. Major props to all who contributed to our first issue, "Monsters," and you can pick up you copies from Blue (feel free to call her at 503-453-5839) starting Sunday (September 6th) or at the release party. We're also working on setting up an Etsy store.
