Subject: SUSTAIN Is now Released
Dear SWMM Users,
We are very pleased to inform you that the System for Urban Stormwater T
reatment Analysis and INtegration (SUSTAIN) software (Version 1.0) is
available for download at the same EPA website where SWMM5 is located:
http://www.epa.gov/ednnrmrl/. While you are there, you may also
download the SUSTAIN report or you may get it at:
http://www.epa.gov/nrmrl/pubs/600r09095/600r09095.pdf. EPA began this
research project in 2003 to develop a decision support system for
selection and placement of stormwater best management practices (BMPs)
at strategic locations in mixed land-use urban watersheds. The primary
objective of the system is to provide stormwater management
professionals with a BMP assessment tool based on sound science and
engineering that helps develop, evaluate, select and place BMP options
based on cost and effectiveness.
SUSTAIN is based on an integrated geographical information system (GIS)
watershed/BMP database, cost, and hydrologic, hydraulic, and water
quality modeling to cost-effectively achieve the desired water quality
objectives. Prior to this release, four informational workshops were
conducted in Edison, NJ; Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; and Seattle, WA; and
one hands-on training workshop for beta testers in Fairfax, VA. EPA
has secured fund for Tetra Tech to provide users support and conduct
additional informational and hands-on training workshops. EPA has also
committed additional funds to perform the needed enhancements and case
applications with the goal of releasing Version 2.0 in 2012.
