Subject: Hotstart File Creation

Hello,

=20

I am using PCSWMM 5.0.14 to run a simulation for a 6 month period. I
would like to create and use a hotstart file, but the run time for the
model will be lengthy. I was thinking to reduce the simulation period
to about one day, just to generate the hotstart file, and then use that
file for the 6 month run. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried
this. If so, did they encounter any troubles? Is this a valid way to
use hotstart files?

=20

Thanks.

Hi Mathhar,

You do not have to run your whole simulation to make a hot start file that is useful for defining the initial conditions of your model. You can run it for one day and save the ending conditions as you suggest or you can use the feature in SWMM 5 to save a particular time and date from the GUI to the hot start file. The main purpose of the hot start file is to start your simulation with reasonable node depths and link flows (along with other variables) that allow the network to start the simulation without being completely dry.

Best and Kind Regards,
