1) 10,000 REASONS TO SIGN THE TROOPS HOME PETITION

Gordon Brown's "mini-surge", taking the number of British
troops fighting the Afghan war to over 10,000, followed by
Barack Obama's surge taking the US deployment to over 100,000,
confirms that Afghanistan faces many more years of war and
occupation.

The responsibility of the anti-war movement is clear: to build
the biggest possible swell of public opposition to this
senseless war and pressure the politicians into reversing a
policy which can only bring the mass slaughter of Afghans and
invading soldiers alike.

Many thousands of signatures have been collected for Stop the
War's Bring the Troops Home petition, with some local Stop the
War Groups reporting unprecedented levels of support.

The deadline for the petition is 17 December. It will be
delivered to Gordon Brown in Downing Street on Monday 21
December by military families who have lost loved ones in
Afghanistan, other families who have relatives serving there,
and former soldiers who were deployed there.

Please do all you can in the two weeks before the deadline to
help build the size of the petition, by ensuring you have
signed it online and by encouraging everyone you know to do
the same.

The online petition is at: http://bit.ly/8jLhRk (If you
signed one of the previous online Afghanistan petitions, there
is no need to sign again).

There is also a Bring the Troops Home petition for downloading
and printing, to use for the collection of signatures which
are then send to Stop the War's national office, available

Occupation are among the speakers at a Stop the War briefing

Commons on Wednesday 9 December.

3) SUPPORT SOLDIER JOE GLENTON STILL IN PRISON

Lance Corporal Joe Glenton is still being held in prison
pending his court martial appearance next year for refusing to
return to Afghanistan.

At present there is no indication whether Joe will be kept
locked up over Christmas.

Stop the War is urging all its supporters to send messages of
support, post cards, Christmas cards, emails etc to show
solidarity at this very difficult time for Joe and his family.

Please encourage anyone you know who opposes the Afghan war to
show support for Joe's brave stance. He is the only serving
soldier so far to refuse duty in Afghanistan but he knows he
speaks for many more in the armed forces who, like him, feel
they are fighting an unjustified and futile war.
