I have set up a proper forum on the Stokey Local website:

http://stokeylocal.org.uk/forum

It would have some advantages over the google group in that it's split
into multiple subject forums rather than having one stream, it's much
tidier and easier to follow, allows you to embed links, images and
youtube videos, has private messaging and email (kind of similar to
the reply to author function here). Generally I hope that it would be
a much more effective way of communicating.

The only disadvantage that I can think of is that it doesn't send out
the daily digest but when you post a message you can check a box which
will get the forum to email you if someone responds which is arguably
better. You can also follow the forum using RSS feeds if that's your
thing.

What would people prefer? Keep on the Google Group or move to the
forum?

My personal view is that the Google Group has done a great job of
keeping people in touch with each other for the first 2 weeks but the
forum would be a better communications tool and if a move is going to
happen I would say it's better to do it sooner rather than later. We
would keep the google group going for a while to make sure that
everyone moves across ok.

I've added a post in the General Discussion forum which outlines how
it works.

Please let me know your thoughts.

I agree that a forum would be a better place for discussions.

Can we keep the google group as a mailing list and encourage people who do not want to be active on a day to day basis to sign up to keep informed.
It could be used to advertise specific meetings and events, and to send out regular updates on how the campaign us going.
Can it be changed so that only admin can email?

Good thinking Tom. It is possible to have the group manager post only
so that's very doable.

Yes - the website is probably best for the forum. However, could we
have a big sign of somesort on the Group site to direct people to the
web - otherwise there could be a lot of confusion - Damian

Yep I can keep posting here to make sure people are steered over
there.

Is this a good idea..the more you restrict things in this way the less tends to happen..I'm not on Facebook or Twitter and I'll probably stop feeling the impetus to do do things if there's no discussion.  I originally rang thte Hackney Gazette and thats why I rang today because I realised they were not following what's happening witht he petition or Stokey Local
You don't want to deter people from feeling they can do things...then the energy could fizzle out,

Hi Suzy

The idea is that we would carry on the discussions at the forum at
http://stokeylocal.org.uk/forum because it's a much easier environment
to discuss things in.

Hi Jamie,
I have registered but it's quite likely I'll forget it if it doesn't come through on my email..
A lot of people have registered on the google group and are watching the general discussion even if they don't have time to reply...If you confine it like this I think there could be a bit of a drop off of activity and awareness.

Like the new forum. I think it will streamline things well and we're new enough to make the switch over, so long as we really flag up where it is for people.

There is always a risk of that but I don't think this place works well
with lots of people. I'll summarise the posts that happen there and
pop them on here in the meantime so that people can see that things
are going on there now.

There could still be a general discussion here..I went on this morning but it took about half an hour. and I would have to think before I went on it about my time etc..

Hi Suzy

You're right about the google group so I'll leave this open to all
registered people to post as it's a useful alerting system. I'll also
periodically summarise forum posts as well and send them out to this
list.

Cheers

Jamie

Hello all,
We are hoping to do a Stop Sainsbury's stall at this Sunday's fete at the common to publicize the campaign and gather support. We still need to check whether this is possible but I wanted to provisionally see if anybody would volunteer to man the stall? The fete runs 1pm-5.30 and if there are enough people we could do a shift system. Apologies for the late notice about this.
We are still generally looking for volunteers to man the Saturday Farmer's Market stall (or at other Stoke Newington events). We are still finding there are new people coming along who don't know about the issue and are collecting new email addresses each week so it still seems a worthwhile activity.
So if you are able to do this Sunday or you have even a couple of hours on the odd Saturday please get in touch! It's a nice job too, you get to talk to lots of people in the community!
Thanks, Tara

That's great John, thanks. I'll  be in touch later today.
Thanks for the info on the forum about having StokeyLocal stuff on the Unites stall at Uprise. I'm away that weekend but will see this weekend if anyone wants to help man that stall.

HI Tara,

Just a note to apologise for being late today, I had got confused
with the One Festival and went to the park. Sorry about this.

HI John,
Thanks a lot. I wasn't able to be there on Sunday, but I'm sure it was absolutely fine as we had a few people to cover.
Hope it went well and speak soon,

Hi Suzy

Nothing has been fixed as there wasn't much response but I'm happy to
catch up with anyone who wants to. I need to leave at about 7.30 so
will be at the White Hart from 6.30 if anyone wants to come along.
