Does anyone have any specific date suggestions in mind? We want to
avoid clashing with higher profile conferences where we can. For
example, RailsConf 2012 is on April 23rd.

We need to have about a month of RFP time so we can hopefully get some
good speakers in. Peter Cooper has nicely agreed to add our conference
to Ruby Weekly so we'll get additional exposure when it's time.
Hopefully I can convince Jason and Peter to mention it on The Ruby
Show and get the Ruby Rogues to mention it as well.

I was thinking perhaps some time in May or June.

Thanks guys

Definitely agree with the May or June schedule. Looks like most of the other Ruby related conferences are out of the country towards that time of year: http://lanyrd.com/topics/ruby/

I'm thinking June would be better, it will give us more time to get everything in place.

You can also check the general ruby conf organizer calendar here, just so you know what else is going on at same time. (also could lose some potential speakers if they are previously engaged elsewhere).

PS. It would probably be good to join the regional ruby conf organizer group too. https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/regional-rubyconf-organizers

I would suggest July or August. Maybe even next year. Give yourself time. Why don't we get together and talk about it at coffee and code next week.

I don't think there's a need to wait a year honestly. Pushing it to
July might be fine though.

I agree that it should probably be pushed out a bit.

I also agree it'd really be better to setup a meeting and find out how much time each person is willing to dedicate to the cause before you start setting deadlines.

It might be worthwhile to settle on two or three primary speakers and let
THEM propose a time whey they would be available?

Camel : cam·el /ˈkaməl/
Noun:
• A large, long-necked ungulate mammal (genus Camelus) of arid country, with long slender legs, broad cushioned feet, and either one or...
• A horse designed by committee

Someone just needs to decide to do it, and then do it. Don't wait for everyones buy in.

Hah. I feel I won't be as successful if I don't take a little
feedback.
