So I read this article in the Webster/Kirkwood Times paper...thought I would see if anyone else has noticed an increase.  I know that I've seen a massive jump in the number of bikes on the road.  Last year on my morning commute (15 mile route north/south right west of Lindbergh) you would m-a-y-b-e- see one other cyclist if it was a 'busy' bike day.  Granted the route isn't a super busy bike-way but it does intersect Clayton Rd which is a pretty heavily traveled route for many bikers.

I thought I would count this week...the lightest day was today with 8 other cyclists on the road...three of them looked to be commuters with baggage...the others were obviously out for exercise.

Anybody notice more bikes in your neighborhood?

Jeff,

Do you ride on Craig Road? If so, I think I saw you one afternoon.

That was probably me...I live close to Laumeier Sculpture Park (I-44/Lindbergh) so I take Geyer Rd all the way up to Clayton Rd...then onto Spoede to Ladue to Graeser to Olive...to Craig Rd...I work in one of the Park 270 buildings right off of Craig...

are you in the area?

Saw a recumbent rider this morning cruising southbound just north of the community center...anybody in the group?

I'm not conscious of a big change in cyclist numbers day-to-day, but for sure I noticed a lot of bikes parked at the Festival of Nations this weekend!  We even saw three recumbents!

Trailnet will actually be coordinating a cyclist/pedestrian count on a few days in September.  If you're interested, you can sign up to help gather data here:

Hi Jeff -

I work just south of you at Olive and Craig.  My 3 mile commute isn't as bike-friendly as yours though, as it is almost completely on Olive.

I live off of Orchard Lakes. My brother roasted me some coffee and delivered to me by bicycle yesterday. He lives on the other side of Craig from me. He also rides to Creve Coeur Lake but I am not that brave.

That's a considerate brother you have!  I can get to CC Lake easily from Craig/Marine, but the long narrow downhill leading into the park is intimidating, not to mention the difficulty climbing out, esp on a recumbent.

Am doing Pedal the Cause this weekend, but taking my upright as there are some wicked climbs in Babler.

...It's possible to get to the lake without doing the crazy hill on Marine Ave.  If you're heading towards the park from Marine (before you get to Dorsett Rd) you can hang a left on Amiot Dr. which will dump you onto Creve Coeur Mill Rd where you'll see the path on the right to head into the park!!!
