Volunteers Are Winners Every Day at SMA The United Way of Volusia and Flagler Counties honored volunteers at a luncheon for National Volunteer Week. SMA volunteers took home two awards.  Our Board President, Judge James Foxman, was recognized as first runner-up in the “Senior” Volunteer category.  All of us are aware of what a great leader we have in Judge Foxman and it was great to seem him recognized.  Jon and Anita Greaves were honored as the “Family” Volunteers of the Year.  They both volunteer at Project WARM.  Jon can best be described as a “jack of all trades” who has painted most of the building, and keeps the WARM facilities spruced up as an adjunct to our facilities department.  Each week Anita bakes, interacts and counsels the women of Project WARM.  The Greaves family has worked with SMA programs for more than 20 years.  Jon is also a member of SMA Foundation Board.  Jon and Anita are received the Presidential Service Award. Our thanks to Jim, Jon and Anita and congratulations upon your richly deserved awards. Frank Heckman was honored at the Department of Juvenile Justice Luncheon for his support of the SMA Oaks program. The Beachside Neighborhood Watch supports many special projects at the Oaks and Mr. Heckman weekly brings out a meal and movies or other fun for the residents. Columbia Correctional Facility reentry program staff threw a thank you luncheon for their volunteers. Mike Belle, Barbara Campbell, and Albert Padin are the first volunteers to be support this substance abuse reentry program. This volunteer program at the Columbia County Department of Corrections facility is in its infancy and is already ramping up and will have another six volunteers in the next few weeks. Project WARM clients threw an appreciation luncheon for their volunteers. It was truly a wonderful event. Over 400 generous, dedicated, and talented people support our agency every year! Thank you!
