Project Kaleidoscope Upper Midwest Regional Leadership Institute for Early Career Faculty
June 11 - 13, St. John's University, Collegeville
Application Deadline: May 7
Cost: $350

This weekend retreat is designed to enhance the leadership capacity in our region's colleges and universities and to provide support for early career faculty acting as change agents on their campus or in their profession. Only 20 participants are accepted. This retreat is similar to earlier Faculty Leadership Institutes in which some of our faculty participated.

Individual faculty are welcome to apply. Administrators, I encourage you to nominate early-career STEM faculty, especially those that involved in STEM initiatives on your campus. A letter of support is required from the campus administration.

Participants will:

* engage in discussions of the challenges and opportunities for STEM faculty in leading educational initiatives
* learn from experienced leaders about the political dimensions of change
* practice the art of successful negotiation and communication
* share their career and educational project plans with peers and experienced mentors
* network with others in nearby campus communities

Most importantly, the workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to reflect privately and with mentors and peers on finding balance in their personal and professional lives, on being an agent of change, and on leadership that makes a lasting difference. The registration fee will cover room and board for the weekend; participants will be required to pay for their own travel expenses.

Workshop Mentors/Facilitators:
* Susan B. Chaplin, Professor of Biology - University of St. Thomas
* Susan Elrod, Director of Project Kaleidoscope- Association of American Colleges and Universities
* Alison I. Morrison-Shetlar, Dean of Elon College - Elon University
* Mary M. Walczak, Professor of Chemistry - St. Olaf College
* Marcus D. Webster, Professor of Biology - College of St. Benedict and St. John's University
