The people behind the SkyFire browser bought Steel as far as I know.
The likelyhood of further updates to Steel is small.

Author never responds to bug reports. I'll be uninstalling and moving

The answer to your first question is to long press the BACK button. It will
then ask you if you want to exit.

Hi all. I'm new to the Android community and to Steel as well. Had
installed it previously and didn't like it much as I didn't know how
most android browser worked. After sampling Dolphin HD, Skyfire,
xScope and Opera Mini, I've had the best experience with Steel. I
would still like to see two things for now though.

It would be really cool if the bubble and possibly also
the scrollbar could be configured to just go away
completely in full screen mode. Perhaps an option...

Nope, it's just a official-updates-only Xperia X10, but interesting tip none
the less. I've suspected a slightly inferior memory handling by Android for
a while now.

iff you have rooted your phone you could try playing arround with
memory threasholds, this did the trick for me on my samsung galaxy
i7500 which is a low memory device...

I am having an issue where the browser will not save jpg files. The
downloads window comes up and says start, then active, then done.
However there is no yellow progress bar and the file saved is zero
bytes in size.

By redownloading the file as a different name than the first download,
it will download fine.

Does anyone know how to remove a tag/label?

I have a tag that I want to remove; it's spelled wrong. Is there a way
to edit it or just remove it? I tried removing that tag from any
bookmarks it's attached to, but it's still there.

Actually it would appear other browsers exhibit the same behaviour, even the default one.
That would mean that Steen is of the hook, and I'm busy figuring out what happened.
It just might be PandaHome but can't tell yet.

Url bar Edit Text context menu is black

Just updated to the new version but when I long press the url bar, the
context menu is all black. This definitely didn't happen on the
previous version and doesn't happen if I long press the text box where
I'm typing this message. I'm using a nexus 1 running stock Android 2.1
update1.

Yep...

Clear your browser defaults (Menu>Settings>Applications>Ma nage
Applications>Clear Defaults)

Then the next time you search it should give you an option of browsers to
execute the search. Check the use this by default box and select Steel.

Skyfire has gone "Alpha" on it's new browser for Android. It's
sounding much more 'Steel-like' than Skyfire like at this point. From
what BGR is reporting, there's no flash support, no silverlight
support or anything more than what Steel had before. The bigger
question is if they are just trying to run their coding/sideserver

Google updated buzz, it requires HTML5, which Steel (build for 1.5 and
up) doesn't have. If you change user agents, and visit Buzz, they'll
show you a nice error message with the system requirements.

from what I understand buzz uses html 5 which only android 2.0+ has.
If you were to root your g1 and install a 2.0+ rom it should work

until yesterday (19.03.10), the standard android sys browser failed to
render buzz.google.com. steel did, even though the page complained
about non supported android os version (im stuck on android 1.6 on an
g1).
scince yesterday, it's the other way round.
guess google changed something in m.buzz.google.com, to make it render

Ok,
I just looked at the doc and it's very confusing :S
Regarding this page it seems that the behaviour doesn't change if the
target version is < 5.
For now, I'm assuming the app is closed when I long press BACK :)

The browser saves the password and works fine for a day to a day and a
half but then always asks me to sign back in. Luckily it saves my
password but when I click Login (to Facebook), it says "invalid
password" and finally takes when I click Login a second time.

handles the hard keys differently (apparently from 2.0 onwards it

Now, when I long press 'BACK' button, I briefly see the exit dialog
box.

I rather like the way the standard dialog shows up in my apps, but I
am never afraid to build my own when needed, it only takes a few

This topic is one of my pet peeves with Android, and one of the more
contentious subjects.
When I started working on Steel, which was almost the day that the
first Android phone became available, Android was, quite frankly, a
mess. One of the better messes out there, but still, the UI was all
over the place.

DialogBuilder, etc. As a result, the positive and negative buttons are
laid out in a way not consistent with the rest of Android.

install appswipe from market, long click your home screen, you will
see the last six launched apps, click on one of those will quickly
