Follow up to Lost bookmarks (whole category!)

Following up on my post/e-mail below, I have noticed that several of
the missing bookmarks have reappeared in my root folder; however,
there were also several subcategories within the lost category that
are still missing along with the bookmarks contained within.

Interestingly, I can see the missing categories on the StartAid
homepage in the configuration options where I can select any one of
them to be opened by default. When I do so, the missing bookmarks can
be seen. Exporting them does not help; however. I guess I can
recover them one by one from the StartAid page, but a simpler method
and a prevention strategy would both be appreciated!
