Hi team. Sunday's ride will venture to Felton, a charming town a few
miles south of Boulder Creek on Highway 9.
The route there is hilly - up highway 9, south along Summit and down
Bear Creek (a great descent) into Boulder Creek, a bonus jaunt up
Jamison Creek, along the flatter-than-it-sounds Empire Grade, and then
down Felton Empire Rd into Felton. (Another fantastic descent.) We'll
stop in Felton for a quick lunch (< 20 minutes), then head up Zayante
Rd to Summit, down Bear Creek to Los Gatos, and take our usual flat
roads home. The whole ride is about 85 miles and you can expect to
spend about six hours in the saddle. There may be a slight diversion
at the top of Zayante to check out the switchbacks on Upper Ellen Rd.
If you'd like to come back early, there are rumors of a slightly
shorter option of 60-70 miles. That ride will probably take the same
route as above in Boulder Creek, then head back up Highway 9 to
Skyline, and head home via Page Mill or 84. If you want to do the
whole ride but want a longer break in the middle, you can skip the
Jamison Creek diversion and just meet up with us in Felton.
The pace on these rides is steady; we're not looking to go fast as
much as get in a lot of riding without much stopping.
And of course, I will see you all Friday night and at the skills
clinic at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
