Here are some good suggestions for prayer and action at this difficult time, as the Climate Change negotiations come to an end in Copenhagen with much still to be resolved.

Best wishes

Subject: Pray and Take Action on Copenhagen

Dear Friends,

As was almost certainly predictable, the Copenhagen negotiations are nearing an end with much yet to be decided, and tremendous pressure on all parties.

And so we pray. In addition to prayers for the points being negotiated (Tearfund has updated prayer points here), please pray for the process in these final hours:

  • that the process of the final negotiations will be fair and transparent -- and that the voices of those who will be hurt first and worst will not be excluded at this critical stage. Pray particularly for strength for delegates who are part of small delegations, as they go through the physically, as well as intellectually, grueling process of trying to cover so many complex issues while having had little rest
  • that world leaders who are present may rise above narrow self-interest and be given strength, wisdom and courage to seek the common good

We can also still take action. Avaaz has a "Save Copenhagen" online action that is being delivered direct to Copenhagen; Christian Aid has an online action directed to Barrack Obama.

And we can follow what is happening to keep our prayers up to date: from UK media sources, the Guardian's complete coverage page, the FT and the BBC are frequently updated. The dedicated sections in the New York Times, South African Mail and Guardian, Times of India offer news with different perspectives .  Christian Aid, Oxfam, Tcktcktck and Tearfund's Copenhagen pages offer their latest news and press releases and responses to events.

If you want to go into more depth there's the UNFCCC website itself, with live and on-demand webcasts, schedules and documents. The Earth Negotiations Bulletin COP 15 bulletin, which has been coming out nightly, offers a summary of where things are - it's quite technical and by virtue of being only a once-a-day event may not be the most up-to-date, but it is clear and very comprehensive.

Finally, there's also plenty of comment and reflection available, including a  blog on the negotiations hosted by the Diocese of Oxford and a CAFOD blog, both with much food for thought.
