Hi,

So I'm sorting out trophy ordering. Before I do so, I thought I'd gather
some requirements. From a variety of places (the budget, Trac and the
rules), I think what we need is:

* 1st Place -- large glass trophy
* 2nd Place -- medium glass trophy
* 3rd Place -- medium glass trophy
* $N trophies for the winning team's members -- small trophy (of some kind)
* Committee's Award -- small or perhaps medium trophy (of some kind)
* Team Image Award (see rules) -- small trophy (of some kind)

...where small, medium and large are all relative terms. Choosing a
value of $N may be interesting. It looks like it was 6 or 7 last year,
perusing some photos. What's our largest team this year?

The large glass trophies should have the logo on them as well as the
standard text engraving. Smaller trophies, with a little plaque, won't.

There is £110 budgeted for trophies.

Have I missed anything?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi,

I think you've covered everything - I recall some chatter (and there is
a trac ticket for) edible prizes, but that doesn't fall under the
catagory of trophies (and isn't urgent).

Cosmetic opinion regarding the committee/chairmans award - if you recall
previous years it was three interacting cogs with a
bronzy-looking-finish, and was largely plastic. Something more
substantial and weighty would be nice (IMHO), budget permitting.

I think we should get something a bit better than last years chairmans award and the sc should reach a consensus about who it goes to. This award should be called the "committee award"

I'll look into getting a small glass trophy for this award as well as
the team image one. Budget may be tight though.

Worth mentioning: the rules (§4.2) name this the Chairman's Award.

Many thanks for sorting this out.

I seem to remember the quality of trophies not being that great last
year so perhaps consider another supplier? I recall spending some time
having to take all of the little plaques / labels off the front and
reattaching them during the competition.

Yes, I remember. With the budget available, we may not
be able to do much about that. I've contacted another
company, quote to follow.

Yes, I seem to recall us deciding to change the name. Perhaps the
rules need updating.

Hi,

I've been in contact with the people at [1]. I asked for a quote for:

* 5 of [2], 1 large, 2 medium and 2 small for the first, second, third,
committee and team awards. respectively. These will all be engraved
with our logo and have some text on them.

* 8 of [3] for the winning team members. These will be engraved with
text only.

Ordinarily this would be way over the budget. I asked nicely, and from
their email:

"We have given you a 15% discount, £3.50 reduction on glass engraving
and 50p off each flat plate engraving."

See [4] for their quote. The reduced price is £121.24, much closer to
budget than before. If there are no objections, I'll generate a budget
mod to move £11.24 from the prizes budget over to this one. This way,
we get nice glass things for all the awards, except the individual ones.

Cheers,
Chris

Sounds really good. Nice work Chris! Looks as if we want to get these
ordered ASAP as the website says the order will be dispatched in 5-7
days and with Easter coming up that's cutting it very fine. I know
they've already given us a discount but it might be worth seeing if they
can do it a bit quicker too.

Indeed - if those are working days, and we take the Easter holidays into
account, we're already scuppered.

I'll see what they can do.

So, text for the glass trophies:

Student Robotics Competition 2012
$TYPE

...where $TYPE is one of {First Place, Second Place, Third Place, Committee's
Award, Team or Robot Image Award}

And for the winners:

Student Robotics Competition 2012
Winner

Opinions?

Yep, sounds good; is there another name for "Robot Image Award"? "Best
looking robot" perhaps? (This is nitpicking).

It's about the presentation of a team or robot. How about "Outstanding
Team Award"? That can cover everything, then.

Hi,

The order has now been sent. I just need to pay tomorrow when I know
how they want it. I think they may also want me to look at some proofs
before production.

Thanks for the quick responses, guys :-)

I've just spoken to them; they'll do the engraving tomorrow, with delivery
expected on Tuesday (even after considering bank holidays). Not bad.
