Dear fellow graduate students,

Two weeks ago I sent out a call for applicants for the SPSP GSC’s 2010 Student
Poster Award (please note – this is a DIFFERENT competition from our 2010
Outstanding Research Award competition), and I would now like to: (1) clarify
some eligibility information and (2) also call for peer reviewers for the
Student Poster Award.
ADDENDUM TO SPA ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
-------------------------------------------------------------
a. You may compete for both the SPA and
ORA in the same year, but you may only win one award – therefore, you must
submit a written notice of withdrawal from the SPA competition if you are a
winner of the ORA competition.
b. Past winners of one award are
eligible to apply for the other award the following year. For example, 2009 ORA
winners may apply for
the 2010 SPA competition.
c. If you have won an award in the past
using specific studies/results, please submit different research for future
competitions. Both the SPA and ORA seek
to highlight fresh and novel developments in our field.

**CALL FOR SPA REVIEWERS**
--------------------------------------------
(You may act as a reviewer for both awards – great way to add another line to
your CV!)

The process is straightforward and requires minimal time and effort. Depending
on the number of applicants for the award, the reviewers will use a scoring
sheet to review 5 to 10 applications (which will include a 500-word summary and
an electronic copy of the poster to be presented) during a 4-week period.
Because we understand that everyone’s
schedules and obligations can vary quite a bit during the month of December, we
have allowed an ample amount of time for the reviewers’ convenience. The review
period will start December 2, 2009and end on January 5, 2010. We do not expect that
anyone will require the
full period to review 5-10 applications but wish to give our volunteers some
flexibility.
If you are interested in serving as
a peer reviewer for the 2010 Student Poster Award, please contact me at hl...@uh.edu
(using
“SPA Reviewer” as a subject line) with the following information in the body of the
e-mail:
1. Your name
2. Your affiliation
3. Year in school
4. Best e-mail to reach you
5. Phone number (last resort, just in
case)
6. Areas of research interest or
knowledge
7. Any past reviewing experience (not
necessary)

Thanks for your interest!
