Hi everyone,

having used PUIAS for almost a year now, I'd like to see what the new Springdale looks like.

So, I've added the repo Thomas Uphill posted in announce back in November, but I'm getting conflicts when trying to install  springdale-logos.noarch 0:60.0.10-2.sdl.3:

Downloading Packages:
springdale-logos-60.0.10-2.sdl.3.noarch.rpm                                                   |  16 MB     00:39
Running rpm_check_debug

What should I do?

Any advice is appreciated.

Try this:

# rpm -ev --nodeps puias-logos
# yum install springdale-logos

If you don't like it to revert, just reverse the order

# rpm -ev --nodeps springdale-logos
# yum install puias-logos

Thanks,

Hi ep,

Thanks for helping me out.

I managed to get the package installed that way.

However, the system stills says PUIAS Linux when it boots, and another system that I added the repo to back in november, has a green bar and says Springdale Linux. I don't remember having any issues installing the packages on that one either.

I've compared the packages installed on the two systems, and they seem to be the same (name and version)

Any suggestions you might have are very welcome. I think your distro(well..) is exceptionally good.

I'm guessing you'll need to replace the plymouth packages as well that
are located in the same repo.

Take a look at all the packages in the springdale-logos package.

http://springdale.princeton.edu/data/puias/springdale/6/x86_64/

For any package in that list you have installed, I would replace it
with the springdale-logo version using the technique you used for the
springdale-logo package.

It should be cosmetic, but as always, be careful.

Thanks,
ep

I'm curious how you are updating (this might be my fault too though)

If you add the repo and do "yum clean all && yum update", you should get all the packages at once instead of piecemeal.  Doing it piecemeal will lead to this type of conflict.

Not it might be my fault if I don't have an Obsoletes, line in the rpms,  I might not have done that because we haven't moved to Springdale on the 6 release yet.  The plan is to change that to springdale when 6.4 comes out. (As we did for 5.9 when that came out)

As for booting, for text mode the name of the release is in springdale-release, for graphical it is in plymouth.  Even after updating plymouth you might not see the logo as plymouth doesn't update itself until there's a new kernel.

I hope that clears it up a bit, I'll check the rpms and put in some obsoletes if they are not there.  Hopefully 6.4 comes out soon and we can make the switch officially. (making it midstream in 6.3 doesn't make a lot of sense right now)

Thanks,
Thomas.

And they're all from the logos repo as you can see.

@Thomas: I installed by adding the repo and doing a yum clean and yum update. But I did do a yum update before adding the logos repo. Maybe that's what caused this.
When I did the yum update to add the logs pkgs, the one in my original post was the only on that complained.

But thanks for you help anyway, I'll do a quick test to see if it changes anything if I add the logos repo before the initial update (right after OS install).

Just an update, I installed 6.3 in a VM and added the springdale-logos repo and ran yum update. This time the progress bar changed to green and the login screen got the springdale street sign background.

So I guess you're right about plymouth only updating when a new kernel is installed.

Thanks guys,

"plymouth-set-default-theme --list" Lists all Plymouth theme Options
"sudo plymouth-set-default-theme spinfinity" Sets the theme to spinfinity. change spinfinity to whatever fits your needs.
"sudo /usr/libexec/plymouth/plymouth-update-initrd" that adds your new theme to initrd. After that do a Reboot and your new theme is active.

I used these Steps in Cenots 6.3 and Scientific Linux 6.3 sucessfully.

Sorry for my English.

Hi Cristoph,

Thanks, that did the trick. I must admit I like the green progress bar better than the orange one ;)

And IMO your english is fine, no need to apologize.
