Images in header?

Is there a way to insert images into the header and footer of a page?

My alternative is to set the margins to 0 an use the first row as
"header" row. But this seems to be a less than optimum way to go.

That isn't currently possible.

I'll look at see how difficult it is to implement and let you know.
From memory it is non-trivial.

I, too, could use this functionality if it was available -- though in
my case it is for a footer...

It would be interesting to know if you have had any success in looking
at this.
