Bug with: SPOT + Windows 7 (64 bits) + Excel 2007 (french)

Hi,

 

When I launch SPOT, I obtain the following error message (in french, but I translate it for you):

 

Excel found unreadable content in 'SPOTv4.2.xltm'. Do you want to recover the contents? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes".

 

Then I click Yes and receive the following recovery report:

Removed Records: Named range from /xl/workbook.xml (Workbook)

 

After that, I'm finally able to start working with SPOT, but I encounter various error in the Goemetry Input section.

Among other things, I've noticed that the cell B6 (on the Geometry Input sheet) which should correspond to the named range ''L'' is in fact unnamed, causing all calculations related to length dimension to crashed...

 

Since the file I'm using is the original that I downloaded from your web site, I'm wondering what's going on ?

Hi Franck,

 

SPOT v4.2 has been upgraded to work with Excel 2007 and 2010 (32bit versions) on Windows 7 (32 or 64bit).  The main focus however was Excel 2010.  The problems you are having seem to be related to Excel 2007 not being able to read some of the Excel 2010 items.  We have done some testing on Excel 2007 where SPOT worked but have not tested extensively.  My best guess is that it may have to do with the French version of excel you are using.  There have been compatibility issues in the past with mixed use of commas and periods for decimal numbers.   You can try the old SPOT v4.0 still downloadable here but this will likely have issue with the Excel 2007 as well.

Hi Zack,

Thanks for your quick response.

I've try SPOT v4.0 with my french version of Excel 2007 and, as predicted, encountered various issues...

Next step, I'll try with an english version of Excel 2010. Hopefully, my boss is not cheap and should agree to pay for that ;)

This should solve the problem.

Hi Zack,

 

I've downloaded a trial version of Excel 2010.

With this new installation, SPOT seems to work fine.

 

The only remaining problem is that I can't convert a EPW file for Quebec, Canada.

 

Here is the error message I get in the command prompt window:

'Weather_parser.py' is not a valid command....

 

Any idea how to solve this issue ?

Hi Franck,

Attached is a slightly updated version of SPOT that fixes a couple issues, including the EPW importing issue.  This has not been posted yet to the website but will be posted soon.  Copy this to the C:\SPOT\ directory and use this template to start SPOT projects.  You can also change your shortcut from the windows start menu to point to this file rather than SPOTv4.2.xlsm.
