I hope everyone is enjoying the Spring in the air! And I have a spring in my step, for two reasons. One, is
the amazing total so far for Sponsor a Guinea Pig-$2,612.17! That's in just eight and a half months, with donations as small as a dollar, and no donation larger than $100. Way to go everyone! Number two is the adoption of a new guinea pig, Brindy.
Here she is in a photo with her cagemate, Moisha. (Please bless our [spring cleaning] mess in the background).
One thing that's not so springy is that my post-graduate job fell through :( If anyone knows of any animal rescue PR work/positions out there, or would like some one time promoting done of their animal rescue/shelter or other organization, please contact me!

I have a thank you from March's rescue, Thistle Cavies. For those of you who are new to the listserve, I'm so sorry if you haven't read yet from the site that Yetti passed away last month.
Here is his memorial entry on the site. It is a very sad loss. Josh struggled at first, but has been paired with a 5 week old boar named Brodie.

I am overwhelmed at the generosity of everyone. So much care for two little piggies so far away and so many words of condolence over Yetti. It warms your heart to see that so many people care for piggies and helps to balance all the cruelty that is out there. Josh is loving his new pal and wheeks for him if I take Brodie out of the cage for any reason and frantically searches the cage for him. Josh is teaching Brodie all his bad habits like widdling on the floor while having their runaround. Josh is like a new piggy, taking care of Brodie, rounding him up if he strays too far from his side during playtime has given him a whole new lease of life.Brodie came in with two other young boars about 12 weeks old and he was so obviously bullied by them. He has little nips all over him and his ears are a little chewed. He is a very scared little lad but is already making progress...Yetti was so very special to me, I miss him like crazy.
Here are some pictures of Josh and Brodie:

Well, if you haven't visited the website then you haven't fallen in love with Misha yet-because the two definitely go hand in hand! This adorable beauty is winning hearts all over the internet! Misha was originally purchased at a yard sale, where she was on a table with a bunch of other stuff her owner considered junk. Her new owner then surrendered her to an animal shelter, where Small Angels saved her from euthanization. Now she is living the rest of her life in pampered care, and she needs it. Misha had a severe UTI, cysts, and liver damage. While she has recovered from her UTI, the cysts are still being monitored by her vet. Misha is not healthy enough for the procedure to have them removed yet, but hopefully one day she will be. Misha's liver damage also causes her to drink excessively and therefore go to the bathroom more than your average piggy-meaning Misha's cage has to be cleaned every day! Misha also needs an ointment applied to her daily to avoid getting urine scald.
We're trying to fundraise $291, our most ambitious goal yet, for Misha. This would cover three months of hay and veggies ($15 each), bedding ($40 a month) and vet visits ($20 a month), plus her monthly tube of Destin ($7). So far we have raised $175, leaving $116 to raise. As our listserve is our main source of donations, I really hope you will consider donating, or possibly forwarding on
the link to Misha's story. Thank you so much!

May's piggy recently changed from Itchy to Opie (but don't worry, Itchy is fine). Opie is a piggy who is in greater financial need. We are trying to raise money for Opie's neuter, one of our first attempts at raising money for a surgical procedure. Opie has a dangerous case of reoccuring impaction, especially severe for his age (3 or 4 years). He is at risk of gastric torsion, a fatal condition which occurs from trapped gas. He also suffers from a reoccuring bacterial infection because of his present condition. Not only that, Opie just doesn't get along with any of the other piggy boys he's ever met.
By neutering Opie, we might not just have a chance at saving his life-but we might have a chance at finding his wife!
