Hello Guinea Pig Sponsors!I. Adopt a Guinea Pig Month/Totals so far
II. February's thank you from All Creatures' Maddie
III. March's Josh and Yetti (sad news)
IV. April's Misha!
I.
Happy Adopt a Guinea Pig Month everyone! What a great month to celebrate in the animal rescue community, whether it be by bringing home one of those adorable fuzz-butts, volunteering at your local rescue or shelter, or just hugging a piggy close and letting them know they're loved. My apologies for not honoring this month sooner with our seventh newsletter, but I was out of town for several weeks and my SAGP duties slipped to the wayside. I may be announcing my own adoption in our eighth newsletter-think good thoughts for me!
In the meantime, I can announce our totals so far.
After eight months of fundraising we have raised $2437.17-isn't that amazing? This has become such an extraordinary project, funded by an extraordinary group of people. I thank you, as do the guinea pigs.
II.
Speaking of thanks, I have a thank you letter from Susan, the director of All Creatures Rescue and Sanctuary, to share, after we raised an outstanding $370 for
Maddie. Susan writes:
ACR&S would like to thank Sponsor a Guinea Pig and all of the
supporters of this wonderful program who contributed to Maddie's care
this February! Her total donation was $370, well over 150% of our
original goal! This amazing generosity has provided Maddie funds with
an extra month of tooth trimming and pain meds, and her special
easy-to-chew veggies! All of us at ACR&S are so grateful to all
Maddie's donors and fans for this tremendous outpouring of support,
and to Shevaun for creating the Sponsor a Guinea Pig program to
spreading the word about needy Sanctuary piggies so far and wide!Maddie's adorable face really has won hearts all over the internet.
III.
Very belatedly I'd like to introduce March's pigs, with some simultaneously sad news.
Josh and Yetti were to be the sanctuary pigs for March, but Yetti passed away just recently due to heart issues. I always knew that was a risk running a site like this, but I am so sad having it happen. He was a gorgeous boy. For some baby photos please view this memorial entry:
Yetti.
Yetti had been suffering from heart problems for a year and a half, and he and Josh were best friends. They lived in the living room of the Thistle Cavies director and his passing was very difficult for her-Thistle Cavies is a small, home-based rescue in Scotland. Josh is actually coping pretty well, and has been placed with a new piggy in order to avoid depression. The new piggy's name is Brodie, and he is an adorable five week old boy. A photo of Josh and Brodie can be seen
here.
Josh suffers from heart issues as well, in addition to extensive dental issues. We've actually already reached our fundraising goal for the month, but more donations are always welcome as his financial needs are extensive. We've raised $310.35 and our goal was $242.46! For donation information, as well as more about Josh and Yetti, please see this link:
Josh and Yetti's Story.
IV.
April's piggy is a gorgeous girl with Small Angels Rescue in MD. Her name is
Misha, and she is just a jewel! Misha has had a tragic time in life. She was first purchased at a yard sale, where she was being sold on a table of junk. Then she was surrendered to an animal shelter, where the rescue saved her from euthanization. Now Misha has a host of medical problems-possibly one of the longest list of an SAGP piggie yet. Despite her health issues she is just a joy to the rescue. She really is one of the pigs that makes me glad I started this program-of course they all are! I can't wait for you to meet her.
V.
Enjoy the rest of your March, my fellow guinea pig lovers! Let's keep April from being the cruelest month, shall we? At least for animals, even if it's just one dollar (or forwarded email) at a time. Thank you so much for the joy you bring me by participating in this project.
Warm regards,
Shevaun Brannigan
