Sphere India
is a national coalition of humanitarian agencies. Its members include key nodal
agencies from Government of India, U.N., INGOs, National NGOs and NGO Networks.
Sphere India facilitates inter-agency coordination, training and capacity
building, information and knowledge management and common advocacy through
collaborative process for quality and accountability in humanitarian action.
Sphere India's present members include, CARE India, USAID, GeoHazards
International, Catholic Relief Services, BISWA, SEEDS India, UNDP, EFICOR,
GOAL, ESAF, CASA, PGVS, IAEM, VASUDEVA, Caritas India, Christian Children's
Fund-Child Fund, UNICEF, ADRA, UNFPA, World Health Organization, Action Aid,
Indian Red Cross Society, IGSSS, Lutheran World Service India, VANI, Heifer International,
AIDMI, Dan Church Aid, Welt Hunger Hilfe, Plan International (India), Tear
Fund, Oxfam India, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Project Concern India,
World Vision, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies,
Save the Children Bal Raksha, Bharat and ACTED. There are many more agencies
which are in the pipeline for membership. The Ministry of Home Affairs holds
the observatory status and Sphere India is also in strategic partnership with
National Disaster Management Authority and National Institute for Disaster
Management.
One of the key thematic areas of Sphere India is Unified Response Strategy,
which is an action based project, launched with the rationale to build
common understanding among different stakeholders for an organized and
coordinated response. As an part of URS, Inter-Agency Groups are facilitated in
new states and strengthened in old states. So far IAGs are formed and
strengthened in Assam, Bihar, Orissa, UP, West Bengal, Gujarat, Jammu &
Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Similar IAG process is being planned in
Karnataka. As Karnataka is vulnerable to disasters, there is a greater need to
ensure timely response and enhanced quality and accountability in humanitarian
action. In the light of present flood situation in the state, this inter-agency
meeting is being organized.
Agenda:
· To facilitate an inter-agency platform as a civil society space in Karnataka.
· To discuss about the initiation of Inter Agency Group (IAG)-Karnataka
· To discuss on the key advocacy issues arising from the present flood situation in Karnataka.
· To share information as to who is working, where and what.
