It works like a dream. It's instant. It doesn't duplicate events. It
doesn't show different events on iCal than appear in Google Calendar.
It actually works with two different people both editing the same
calendar (spanning sync has had major bugs for me through *every* beta
and final version... and I've tried every troubleshooting tip from
here imaginable. I think it's because SS is designed for one person to
sync their own calendars, and two people both making local ical
changes just screws up the system.)

I've been using Spanning Sync for over a year now (two paid licenses)
and it's been useful, if incredibly frustrating. If you've been having
problems too, try it out the trial and see what you think.

I hope this post isn't deleted. I'd like to be a Spanning Sync
customer... but it's just not as good a product right now. It's not
even close.

Kalvin,

I'm surprised to hear you've had a bad experience with Spanning Sync.
I couldn't find any customer support requests from you, and only one
report of a problem here on the discussion group, which we were
apparently able to solve for you immediately. If you're still having
trouble, please get in touch with us here or at
sup...@spanningsync.com so we can diagnose and fix the problem.

We're very proud of the fact that almost 20,000 people use Spanning
Sync every day without any issues whatsoever, but we're eager to help
anyone who does encounter a problem.

Thanks,
Charlie

People like me must be quite annoying! I appreciate your response and
if I ever have any issues with BusySync I'll definitely come back and
work through a diagnosis of my problem (if it hasn't been fixed by
then.)

I do stand by my "SpanningSync has all sorts of issues when two people
are syncing to the same Google calendar" claim at least through 1.2
though...

We have 8 people syncing to the same set of Google calendars, and all
problems we had have been sorted out meanwhile. Everything is working
fine already for several months.
Therefore I really cannot understand the statement "SpanningSync has
all sorts of issues when two people
are syncing to the same Google calendar".

Is it possible Kalvin has a business interest in BusySync? Nice
display of integrity - do you go to Chevy discussion groups and pimp
Fords too?
I have had zero problems introduced by Spanning Sync outside the beta
testing (in which we *EXPECT* issues - it's beta testing!!!). The
Spanning Sync guys are great, the product works as advertised, and
when third party issues arise (either Apple or Google) these guys are
all over it like white on rice.
There's my $0.02.

A small group of us (3-4) use Spanning Sync to synchronise one single
iCal calendar. We all use Leopard (10.5.2). Spanning Sync seldom
seems to last more than a week or so before duplicate events start
occurring. Deleted events reappear.

We thought that completely deleting the Google calendar used as the
intermediary and starting again was a fresh way to "reset" Spanning
Sync, but tonight that efect didn't last more than a few hours before
duplicates reappeared.

Spanning Sync have response service, but I can't report that they have
fixed this problem. I am very interested in people's experience with
BusySync.

Byron-

We've discovered a bug in v1.2 that can lead to duplicates when
multiple people are syncing the same Google calendar and one of them
performs a server reset ("Reset...", "Replace info in Google
Calendar"). It will be fixed in the next version, which we hope to
have in beta soon.

Thanks,
Charlie

I do think people are very nice and all replies are fast but i have A
LOT of problems with spanning sync.
1) events that keep reappering after deletation
2)Events created on G cal that never shows on iCal
3)Duplicated events

Most of the problens are solved with the deletation of the iSync
history as suggested by Spanning sync people
Sadly i already paid for it because if i didn't i would be trying busy
sync by now.

Nope, no business interest... I read about BusySync while looking for
an alternative to Spanning Sync. You're right, it was rude of me to
post here-- I was frustrated -- but Charlie handled it very well and I
think this thread is a credit to SS.

So my BusySync trial expired today and I don't want to pay another
$20, so I came back here to see if there's been any updates. I can't
wait for the next beta that fixes the multiple people syncing the same
calendar bug... I'm guessing that's the issue I had, since I did reset
my calendars a few times.

At that point, the only advantage of BusySync for me is that it's
instant (literally-- click the checkbox and entire calendars sync down
from Google in about 1s)... I wish SS would copy whatever they're
doing for speed-- it's pretty cool to watch.

Not as cool as address book syncing though!

Hi,

For the download (and just for the download) I guess BS could use the
Gcal -> Calendar Settings -> Private Address -> iCal file. You know
you can subscribe it directly from iCal too. It is 'instant' but only
'one way'.

I actually use subscriptions with some ~ delicate ~ shared calendars.
I do this to avoid any trouble I might cause if I fiddle around. For
me it is easyer to make all changes to these calendars in GCal than to
fix one major sillyness made with either iCal or my phone (way too
easy, even automatic, when summertime changes are happening).

So to stay friends with my erm, friends I keep my phone away from
their calendars :) At least until it behaves good for a year or two
with my own calendars.

I'm amazed when I see threads like this.

Personally, I'm a very happy Spanning Sync user who has encountered
very few problems at all. I did have a few events replicate in my
Family Birthday's calendar, but it didn't take long to figure out it
was a problem I personally caused myself in the way I was using
my .Mac account and Spanning Sync.

The problem was actually with .Mac to be honest, and in resetting my
information on multiple computers to get it syncing correctly without
conflicts. I use 8 different computers between work and home, and an
iPhone, and getting them to all play nicely and not try to overwrite
each other as they sync at the same time was a bit of a challenge.

Now, to be fair, I did download BusySync on my older iBook, just
because of all the comparisons between the two programs, and I did
find BusySync to be blazing fast... and not at all reliable. I had
serious issues in my iBook losing data, not downloading new events
from my work gCals, etc...

I'm not bashing BusySync here, it's not my place to do so. But I find
it funny how everyone raves about the speed of it, but no one
discusses it's very obvious short comings.

No thanks for me. I'll take a little slower sync anyday and get the
correct information over 99.99% of the time vs. a faster sync that
can't handle the data load.

For the record, I'm currently syncing 22 different calendars shared
between about 18 people, in use for both home and work. On any given
day I may be syncing anywhere from 500 to 2,000 events, and I've never
experienced a problem I didn't personally cause.
