Auto Sync Trial Version Not Working

I've downloaded the Spanning Sync trial to see if it works well for
syncing my iPhone Pocket Informant Calendar with Google Calendar and
iCal.

I've set it to sync every hour, but unless I have my System Preference
panel open and am signed in, it is not syncing every hour.

Is this behaviour peculiar to the trial version, or is this typical?

Need to know before I purchase. 5 days left.

No, that's not normal. Smells like a Mac OS X keychain problem to me.
Are there any errors in the log (in the Advanced tab)?
