Hello,

I attempted to sync my contacts on a new laptop, but ran into a
roadblock.

When attempting to sync my contacts I received the following message:

Google contact syncing is already turned on for the account
"fabia...@gmail.com". Please turn off Google contact syncing for
this account in Address Book preferences before enabling it with
Spanning Sync.

I then open my address book and when attempting to change the
prefrences, the google sync option does not appear.

Any clues to why this is happening and how to resolve it?

Hi,

The Address Book app "hides" that setting if it thinks that you don't
have an iPhone or MobileMe account. It appears that syncing is on but
since the Address Book app has hidden the pref from you, there's no
way to turn it off.

The easiest way out is to locate this file:

~/Library/Preferences/com.google.GoogleContactSync.plist
("~" refers to your home directory.)

Move it to the trash, then logout and login again and everything
should be fine.

Thanks,

Byron
