I've tried this twice now, both times I've ended deleting iCal calendars, gCal calendars, and re-entered my Exchange settings in Entourage.
I can get iCal and gCal to work perfectly via Spanning Sync between two different machines. Once I enable Entourage's Sync with iCal so I can get my Exchange calendar, everything breaks. I cannot see Entourage's Calendar, iCal crashes repeatedly (as posted earlier, iSync Preferences fixes this), and Entourage will crash once MS's sync engine starts.
Has anyone else have Exchange syncing issues? Didn't know if anyone used Groupcal to get their Exchange calendar into iCal vs. Entourage. http://www.snerdware.com/groupcal/
I'm thinking I'm having the same issue, although it only started today (probably when I installed the latest beta). Entourage just hangs. Have stopped using SS until this gets fixed. At least not data appear to have been damaged.

I have the same problem. I have this error message "The action can not be completed. An unknown error (-116) occurred" Checking the Activity Monitor shows Entourage Daemon being unresponsive and tying up >80% of CPU activity.

Yes, this is what happened to me except it left me with un usable entourage. I deleted Spanning sync, but My Entourage will not open and uses more than 80% cpu.

We've gotten several reports of similar behavior with Entourage, so for the time being we're recommending that Entourage users not use Spanning Sync. We'll investigate to see if we can work around the problem, but we strongly suspect Entourage is syncing in a non- standard way.

Does anyone know how to get Entourage back? I ran the database utility and it says it repaired it, but if I attempt to open Calendar it will crash and lock up again.

I found a work around for a locked up calendar in entourage. Basically I discovered that the export/archive function still worked, so I did that, made a new identity (i.e. a clean database file) then imported all the information from the entourage archive. Something of a pain, but at least I got my calendar back! Bit of a shame that this happens, since spanning sync is such a super programme.

Nice product (I certainly could use it every day) but 100% unusable (so, I guess, not so nice) if you also use Entourage. Seems to be a consensus that if you sync Entourage to iCal then Spanning Sync poses huge problems. Hopfully SpanningSync will advise when this is repaired...until then, so SpanningSync for me....not worth the hassle.....

To be clear, Entourage simply does not work with if you're syncing Entourage with iCal and also syncing iCal with Google Calendar using Spanning Sync. This isn't due to a bug in Spanning Sync problem, but rather a bug in Entourage. Of course we'll continue to look for a workaround and hope that Microsoft comes up with an actual fix, but until then Entourage users who sync Entourage with iCal should not use Spanning Sync.

How did you get the calendar function in Entourage to open? Ever since mine locked up, I can't get past the hanging 'banner' in order to do the workaround you suggested.
