No, we haven't heard anything from Google. But I'll be out at the
Google I/O developer event next week, which would be a great venue for
them to announce something like this. I'll let everyone know if I
learn anything new.
Thanks,
Charlie

Google has a 'Tasks' feature. Apple Mail has a 'To Do' feature. They
both do essentially the same thing. The Mail application creates a
'To Do' calendar in iCal. We are hoping to be able to keep these in
sync when/if Google ever provides an API for their 'Tasks' feature.

Yes, I got a G2. Very cool little phone! Very iPhonesque. We'll be
using it as part of our test setup to make sure that Spanning Sync
works well for people who sync their data from their Macs to Google
apps and then to their Android devices.
I thought it was very cool that I could set up the G2, make some
changes to contacts and calendars on my Mac (which is of course
running Spanning Sync) and see those changes automatically appear on
my new gPhone (and, as always, on my iPhone).

I think Tasks is just a very small project for them, and not something
they see as demanding an entire API. Google is very data-driven
though, so if we can get enough people to "star" the request for a
Tasks API, I bet they'll add one. Here's the link again:

Given that the ICS file format supports tasks, I don't see why it
would be hard to just stretch the calendar API to include this new
type of 'event'. They're already being recorded as a pseudo-calendar
anyway.

The problem is.... the Task system in gMail seems to be significantly
more feature rich than the one in iCal. In particular it features
multiple lists of hierarchical tasks. For sure I don't see tasks in
iCal as being capable of organizing into hierarchies (though that's a
clear feature to ask for form Apple!). As a result, I don't see how
the tasks could sync between the two.
