Resolution of Contact photo becomes lower after sync with SSync

Here's the process of what i did exactly.

1. Added a picture on my iphone. Iphone displays large resolution when
i tested it. I then synced it with itunes WITHOUT syncing with
spamming sync yet. After sync with itunes was done, i tested again and
the photo remained in its' original resolution.

2. Proceeded to sync with spamming sync (nothing was added to address
book/ical whatsoever)

3. I then synced my phone again to itunes. When that was done, i
tested it out and my contact photo on the iphone became small.


I can safely say that syncing it using Spamming Sync changes my
resolution to a lower one. I believe there's something to do with how
google alters my address book pictures or something.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

I was told by the people at Apple, that if you sync contacts on mac
with iPhone you will have to use the smaller pictures. This is the way
it is with Apple's address book. It has nothing to do with SPANNING
Sync.

Only solution would be not to sync to you Apple Address book is what I
was told.

Thanks for the response. Just realized i type Spamming instead of
Spanning. Oops.

However, i've synced my iphone with my address book for quite some
time before using SS and it was fine. The resolution of my contact
photos did not change after i synced the iphone with itunes.

Am i the only one facing this issue?

Hi,

You might want to just disable contact photo syncing in Spanning Sync.
To do so, paste this line into a Terminal window:

/Library/Application\ Support/Spanning\ Sync/Spanning\ Sync.app/
Contents/MacOS/Spanning\ Sync -disable-contact-images

(and press return.)

The next sync will be like the first time and take longer, but no
contact images will sync through Spanning Sync. Note that this doesn't
change any existing photos on the iPhone. If those are low-res then
you'll still have to fix them manually at some point.

Nope. It will "stick" across upgrades.

The problem came back even after i inserted that line into terminal
window. This is starting to get really frustrating.

Note that the problem was fixed when i since had 2.0 . But since i
updated to 2.1, the problem came back.

Although I LOVE the calendar portion of Spanning Sync, I am afraid to
touch the contacts syncing anymore. Let me explain...

I posted in a different thread about the contact photo problem, and
never really got a resolution. I am sure it poses an interesting
problem, because google stores smaller resolution photos than Address
Book or the iPhone. My only suggestion to fix this would be a one-way
sync option for contact photos and/or contacts entirely.

I have a Google Account, Address Book, Spanning Sync (latest) and a
MobileMe account.

However, and it may be related to the same problem, I again tried
turning on contact syncing last week, reassured in the fact that I had
an address book backup and Time Machine to revert to a backup in case
things went bad. Well, I was pleasantly surprised that initially,
everything looked like it was going well. After a sync, my contacts
looked OK, and with the addition of no "Suggested Contact" syncing, I
was left with a pretty good sync. If I remember correctly, there were
a few duplicates, but this may have been due to previous attempts at
syncing with google. Unfortunately, I then realized that ALL of my
contact photos on my iphone and Mac were gone. Since I spent a good
deal of time selecting those photos, I attempted to restore my address
book from the saved archive but still got no photos back. So, I opened
Time Machine and reverted back to a few hours prior.

I almost want to give up, but the "fixit" mentality of me wants this
to work. Ultimately, I don't use google contacts that much, but I
would like my google account to reflect my address book, or things
start to get out of sync.

Oh... and I'm not sure if I tried the above terminal command but I
don't think so. It may fix the problem, but I would rather use a
setting in the application, especially in a paid (purchased) product
otherwise it is easy to forget these types if changes, undo them, etc.
