Hi All,

Just love the program, which works a charm with my new Palm Pre. It is
fantastic to have this Google/iCal stuff push right to my phone. I am
not sure what to do about a contacts situation that I have created
though. Specifically, I do not want the contacts from my laptop
address book, but from the Family computer. I have given it some work,
but have failed so far. Let me explain:

I have been using a the Missing Sync for years to synch two Palms to a
single family computer. This has allowed both my wife and I to have
the same Address Book. Now that I am using a Pre, I would like to push
those contacts to a Google account, and have both of us access them
that way.

I thought it would work if I set up one version of Spanning Aync to
just synch Contacts from the Family Computer, while another version of
Spanning Sync worked from my laptop syncing iCal. However, that caused
all the calender events on my Pre to disappear. They were still there
on iCal and Google Calender, but the Pre did not like that. I would
actually be able to add events to any of my Google calenders, but they
would disappear from the phone right away. Strange huh?

So, do you have any other ideas how to get that address book to my
phone without messing things up?

Thanks,

-Brian

Running Spanning Sync from multiple computers and syncing different
stuff (contacts vs. calendars) should work fine. I'm not sure why
everything would disappear from the Pre when you turned it on. The Pre
syncs directly to Google, right? And if you login into gmail with the
same account, it's not empty, right? If so, then the Pre is getting
out of sync with Google somehow. Is there some way to make it refresh?

Hi Larry,

Thanks for your prompt reply. And glad to hear that it -should-
work ;) I don't know what caused the strange behavior, just that it
happened I could add an event from the Pre, and it would dutifully
push it on to Google and iCal, but it would not show up on the
phone .... I mean NOTHING showed on the PRE, from any calender, Google
or Zimbra or Palm. I agree that the Pre should just read what is on
Google, and not care who else is pushing data to Google, but I thought
I'd double check with you guys in case there was any history with this
kind of thing. I am willing to try it again, though last time required
a complete wipe and reinstall of the phone to get it working. Maybe
over the weekend ;) I'll let you know.
