The Vision Thing - Space exploration - Is it an issue in the next elections?
Hi fellow group members, It's good to be amidst visionaries, in this case supporters Space Elevator. I believe it my duty to do all I can to promote and publicize what it is, why we need it and how we are going to build it. As you all know, the US presidential election is coming up. The other... more »

Welcome Bert
It seems you have a knack for genesis Bert. Starting the SE group of your local NSS and now getting in at the very beginning of this 'group'. So far all that's been going on (as you may have figured out) is that the group is subscribed to the email feed from the SpaceLF8R Journal. --PB--

Space Elevator Journal ////////////////////////////// ///////////// Radioactive Space Debris Re-enters Atmosphere Posted: 08 Jan 2007 03:30 PM CST [link] [Author's Note: This posts documents three cases of nuclear power supplies on spacecraft whose orbit decayed. At this time I don't have any hard information about the size of the nuclear power supplies, radioactivity levels or expert opinion on any environmental damage. --PB--]... more »

Space Elevator Journal Update
Space Elevator Journal ////////////////////////////// ///////////// Space Debris Posted: 02 Jan 2007 01:37 PM CST [link] While the space elevator faces a number of significant engineering challenges that need to be overcome before it gets built, the Space Elevator Journal has focussed on challenges that will occur once it's up and running. The issue of space debris, natural and man-made, will be a constant of life in space. Unfortunately, most of the man-made junk is in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO).... more »

Space Elevator Journal Update
Space Elevator Journal ////////////////////////////// ///////////// NIST Laser-Based Method Cleans Up Grubby Nanotubes Posted: 22 Dec 2006 03:20 PM CST [link] Before After Before and after electron microscope images of a pyroelectric detector coated with single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs) visually demonstrate the effect of the laser cleaning process. In addition, the SWNTs look visibly blacker after laser treatment, suggesting less graphitic material and increased porosity. (Image and Caption Source: NIST)Before carbon nanotubes can fulfill their promise as ultrastrong fibers, electrical wires in molecular devices, or hydrogen storage components for fuel cells, better methods are needed for purifying raw nanotube materials. Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL, Golden, Colo.), have taken a step toward this goal by demonstrating a simple method of cleaning nanotubes by zapping them with carefully calibrated laser pulses.... more »
