Subject: Free Dog Training and More Parks Events

cross-posted

Dear Friends of Somerville Dogs,

Three upcoming events offer a variety of opportunities for dog owners
to be involved with parks and open space. From free dog training to
community service to civic engagement, I hope you will join the
Somerville Dog Owners Groups in these events. As the dates approach,
individual announcements will follow.

October 28: Participate in a public meeting and help create a
collective vision for the Mystic River

If you walk your dog in any of the parkland along the Mystic River,
including MacDonald Park near the State Police Barracks, Dilboy Field,
Draw Seven Park and the future Assembly Square Park, please share your
vision for open space along the Mystic River with representatives from
the Boston Metropolitan Area Planning Council and the cities of
Boston, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, and Somerville. The meeting
is from 7:00 to 9:00 Wednesday evening at Somerville City Hall in the
Aldermanic Chamber (second floor), 93 Highland Avenue.

November 1: Get Free dog-training tips at Nunziato Field

Professional dog trainers Marjie Alonso and Liz Shaw of City Dog
Training offer a free clinic to teach your dog to stay and to come
when called. The "Come when Called" Recall clinic is from 1:00 to
2:00, Sunday afternoon, November 1, at Nunziato Field.

November 7 (Rain Date - November 8): Clean up Nunziato Field and talk
about what kind of improvements are needed at the off-leash
recreational area

It's time for the Somerville Dog Owners Group's annual fall park clean
up, and this year we focus our community service efforts on our
favorite park! We will sweep, rake, pick up trash, etc. in both the
off-leash recreational area and in the adjacent field from 10 to noon,
and then we'll break for lunch and to celebrate our hard work. This
will be a good opportunity to talk about what kind of improvements are
needed at the off-leash recreational area and to start talking about
ways to raise money for the improvements. Refreshments will be
provided for volunteers.

Thank you for your kind attention and for helping to make Somerville a
great place to live with our dogs!

Cheers,
Michele
