Hey folks,

I want to apologize for the rant against zetta systems posted earlier in
this thread.  I've been in contact with them and they've requested their
recruiter to tone back on their efforts.  I harbor no ill will toward
Zetta Systems.

Lets get back to the coding...

I was writing a reasoned response to this comment, but I have since
decided it would be a waste.

Fuck you richard.

Well put.

Perhaps we could phrase it a bit more professionally for the list next time,
though?  ;^)

Plus, anyone who doesn't recognize the name "Doug White" or his writing
style hasn't been around FreeBSD enough to even have an opinion, let alone
one that counts.

As it so happens, Wesley ... I've been a generous, competent member of
the UNIX community since before FreeBSD was a gleam in anyone's eye.

I was using UNIX in 1984.

One of my accounts was on the Well, back when it was well.uucp.

I have old business cards that list my email address and specify 'ptsfa'
as one of the possible UUCP gateways; that is, some of my business cards
are older than some of the readers of this article.

I'm rapidly approaching two decades of solid industrial strength UNIX
expertise, and still going strong; I learn a lot from people younger
than some of my business cards, I'll freely admit, and I hope the
transaction is a mutual one ... because no one person can possibly know
it all.

I have hung out with Jordan Hubbard. Back before he shaved regularly.

I was introduced to Jordan Hubbard by Paul Vixie. I have known Paul
Vixie - you know, the 'inventor of the Internet' - since I was about 12
years old. I fed his dog. I've helped him move. I fed -him-, Paul, when
he was a homeless waif - something he'd rather not recall.

None of this allows -me- to make wild, unsubstantiated, emotionally
provacative accusations, without backing them up with facts.

(If you want to see what I mean, see http://www.orafraud.org - you can
be as provacative as you want, but please include facts, so that readers
can make their minds up based upon the evidence ... rather than your
private interpretation.)

Nor, for that matter, does it allow -you- to make such stupid
statements, without being challenged.

Do you have a basis for your statements?

The ability to use a compiler does not, so far as I know, convey godlike
intellectual capabilities upon the user of such technology; it simply
means you are smart enough to receive the torch that was carried by your
forebearers. You are still required to objectively verify the results of
your analysis against available data.

If you don't, you stand the chance of looking like a real boob.

And now, back to the subject at hand.

I have yet to learn what, exactly, this recruiter was doing, that was so
unethical.

If there's a beef, let's see it.

If there's no beef, then it's just another wild, emotionally provacative
statement, with all the semi^H^H^H^H semantic content of "fuck you" ...
and none of the beef.

(-;

Yours for responsible use of the media,

-- richard
