Hi, I’m currently thinking about what could have been a good t-shirt
print for software craftsmanship, but it’s hard to come up with some
really good ones.

Maybe someone in the community can help me with this?
Here are my ideas so far:
- “I’m a software craftsman, and I’m damn proud of it.”
- “I’m a software craftsman! Crappy code makes me cranky”
- “I’m a software craftsman! Who are you?”
- “I’m a software craftsman! How can I help you become a better
developer?”
“Craftsmanship over crap”

- Front: “We need software craftsman because they don’t write bade
code”,
Back: “They don’t write bad code because they hone their skills”

It’s hard figuring out a really good print. I’m sure someone here has
an awesome idea

Thanks

Gøran

I'd buy and wear that one.

Good idea Dave.

How about a line from The Princess Bride. Maybe

"Look, I don't mean to be rude, but this is not as easy at it looks.
So I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't distract me."
or
"Don't rush me, sonny. You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles."

Cheers

I like whats been put out already.  I have a few ideas:

1. Front: SC in the left upper chest.  Back: Across the shoulders in reasonably small writing: Craftsman.

2. Front: SC again in a cool font.  Back: I care about my craft.

3. Front: software and on the back: Craftsman.

I like clean and simple personally.

Nick!

Cool! Now, I to put my money where my mouth is, where do I buy one?

And for everyone who thinks wearing this tshirt somehow magically
turns you into a craftsman, wear this one on top of it:

Pretty cool.

Two more ideas:

1. Front: sc again in cool font. Back across the shoulders, "because I care"

2. Same front, or the word software craftsman in the left oif the
chest, readable but not large. Back, again across the shoulders:
either "because it matters" or simply "it matters."

Nick.

What?! I thought wearing the t-shirt was enough to be a craftsman:/ I
guess I have to get one “Wearing this t-shirt doesn't make me a
software craftsman” t-shirt so I have backup!

I helped out a friend of mine with some customized software. He runs a
t-shirt web shop here in Norway. For my help he paid me with some good
t-shirts like this one. If you are interested in one, I’m sure they
can make one for you? I don’t know the prices, but I can ask him.
Maybe someone else in this community also would like one?

I’m also going to get my friend to make me one “I broke the build” t-
shirt. I’m planning to take it with me to my team, and hand it out to
the person that breaks the build. Then he/she have to wear it for a
day, or until someone else breaks the build.

Awesome ideas:)

I liked; Front: Software Craftsmanshop - back: "Because I care"

A simple, but strong statement :)

I'd buy one.

I once read you can tell a lot about a person from the. Erbiage on his
tshirt, similar to the jungian analysis of fairytales and such things.
For that reason, though I am sure less is more, the less said the
better I feel 8-)

I don't mind people knowing I care.

What about a knockoff of Craftsman tools? We could use the same font,
colors. Curly braces shaped to look like pliers?

Software
Craftsman { }

Take a look at http://www.craftsman.com/ to see what I mean.

How about...

"I'm a craftsman. I don't do magic!" (Emphasis on do)

Or...

"I'm a craftsman, not magician!"

I could point many a (project) manager to my T-shirt and not have to
say a word ;-)

I suggested these Princess Bride quotes once before (I think) but they
didn't seem to get through. Apologies if they did...

Don't rush me, sonny. You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles.

You: You are wonderful!
Me: Thank you - I've worked hard to become so.

Look, I don't mean to be rude, but this is not as easy at it looks. So
I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't distract me.

There are sure to be others. That film is endlessly quotable.

What about:

Front: Use the right tool for the job
Back: Use ME (or the less blunt option: Use ME, because I do)

Front: Know when you don't know
Back: Craftsmanship

And: The tag cloud composed by one of the members on this list, would
be cool to have that on a T-shirt

Cheers,

First of all, I really liked your suggesiton:

Front: Know when you don't know

That was awesome. I should get a t-shirt with that print:)

Eric,

The quite from Johannes Brahms was really good! A good candidate for my business card as well.

Hello all,

A little updating on Software Craftsmanship North America 2010, Chicago IL October 15-16, 2010!

As suggested by many attendees returning from the Agile conference, we have extended our early bird pricing to this Sunday Aug 22!

Register now at http://scna.softwarecraftsmanship.org!

The schedule is also now posted with speakers we'll enjoy hanging around both days: Dave Astels, Ken Auer, UncleBob, Michael Feathers, Corey haynes, Enrique Comba Riepenausen, Keavy McMinn, Michael Norton, Chad Fowler, and Doug Bradbury. All have great topics to share, check it out at http://scna.softwarecraftsmanship.org/schedule

You will also notice that a great portion of the space will be devoted to technical open space, so you can get the geek time you need, and a great portion of the time to breaks, so you can network.

Last but not least, our social events will include a welcoming reception Thursday night. The next night, an unusual Chicago Dine Around event will be our conference party.
Oh, and Saturday morning, wake up early for a 5k to run/walk to burn it all off!

Hope to see you there!

Any questions, feel free to contact us at scn...@softwarecraftsmanship.com.

Angelique Martin

I don't know if it's too late for this, but I came across this quotation from Bob Moawad just now, and it seemed appropriate:

Quality begins on the inside ... then works its way out

A bit of searching turned up this phrase from the same guy:

Help others get ahead. You will always stand taller with someone else on your shoulders.

I just read an article on Inform IT by Uncle Bob, entitled What is Clean Code?  There is a discussion with Micheal Feathers, in which Micheal says, on the question of what is clean code: "....Clean code always looks like it was written by someone who cares."  UncleBob then goes on to say "One word: Care." .... "Perhaps an appropriate subtitle [to the book Clean Code] would be How to Care for Code."

I Care for Code.  I could wear that.
