I'd love to be able to attend, but sadly won't be able to make it.
Which got me wondering, is there any chance that the sessions could be
videoed? I've watched a few Ruby sessions that were done by Confreaks
(http://www.confreaks.com/) and the standard is excellent.
I'd be willing to contribute a small amount to see this happen. If
enough people would do the same, I think we might be able to cover the
cost? At a rough estimate, the cost would be under $12,000 ($1,000
daily per room assuming 2 rooms is $2,000 + $600 hourly per track is 2
tracks 8 hours each is $9,600). Alternatively it would be only $9,000
if you were willing to release the content under Creative Commons
Attribution-ShareAlike license. If people "pledged" a maximum they'd
be willing to contribute you might be able to share this with more
than just the people able to attend.
Ideally, if the recordings were shared under the Creative Commons
Attribution-ShareAlike license then the hosting would be free as well
(which is probably the best scenario?). In this case, 90 people
pledging $100, 180 pledging $50 or 360 pledging $25 would be all it
would take to cover the costs (assuming there is no requirement to
make a profit...). And for an additional fee you could send out DVDs
of the conference.
Sound like a good idea?
Regards,
Doug

I'd be into helping financially with the videos if we can find an even share of people to help out.
Me too. Sounds like we've got some support. :)

So, we've been working through the details of Doug's call for video
for SCNA. At this point we very much want to video the conference,
but can't yet commit to it because we didn't have it in our original
budget. There have been about a dozen people who have raised their
hand on this list willing to pay $10, which is really cool, but way
less than it takes to pay for the sort of quality (confreaks) that we
would need. We're considering several options for how to provide
video and will continue working on this over the next 2 months. One
option would be for a company (or a few companies) to sponsor the cost
of the video and get their name(s) associated with the content.
Let me know if you'd be interested in sponsoring at that level.

My little bit of experience in this area makes me think 10K is on the high side. Does that include editing costs? How many camera's? How many operators?
