I am considering moving Final Cut Studio 3 to a new computer and hard
drive and wanted to make sure the updates are still available from
Apple. Any tips speed up this process?

Hello Larry and congrats on your new computer.
I highly recommend you use carbon copy cloner (free) to make a bootable clone of your system drive.
Video Editor / Motion Graphics Artist / Creative Consultant
This way if you need anything you can grab off it. Also I like to keep the bootable clone around in case I ever have a system drive failure.
I can plug in the bootable clone and boot off it and keep working until I have a chance to repair my damaged system drive.
