The Department of Methodology and Statistics is responsible for the teaching and the research in the area of methodology and statistics for the social and behavioral sciences. The department is a member of the national graduate school Interuniversity Graduate School for Psychometrics and Sociometrics (IOPS).

Responsibilities




Your responsibilities as a lecturer concern teaching courses and contributing to courses on methodology and statistics in the bachelors of the departments of Human Resource Studies, Organization Studies, Psychology, and Sociology, and also in the research masters of several disciplines and the research master in Methodology and Statistics (MTO). Teaching includes giving complete courses, participating in teaching practical computer skills and other research skills, and coaching of master theses.

As a researcher, you participate in the department’s research program Latent Variable Models for Complex Data. This program entails fundamental and applied research into statistical models for latent variables, such as item response models, latent class models, and linear structural models, but also methods for handling missing data, and detecting outliers and response styles in test en questionnaire data. The department has a strong tradition of working with the other (substantive) research programs in our School.

Qualifications


We are looking for ambitious researchers who have (almost) earned a PhD in the Social Sciences, Behavioral Sciences or applied statistics and who have specialized in the development and/or application of advanced research methods for the social or behavioral sciences. Candidates have proven to be able of publishing their research findings in the important international scientific journals in the field.

The Department of Methodology and Statistics fulfills an important role in the teaching of TSB; therefore affinity and experience with teaching and experience with the coaching of Bachelor and Master students are highly appreciated. We expect the candidate to be prepared, if deemed necessary, of following courses to acquire the Basic Educational Qualification (BKO).



Terms of employment

For this tenure track Assistent Professor position a four-year contract applies, with the possibility of tenure (and furthering one’s growth potential) thereafter. Depending on the candidates’ experience, the gross salary will vary between € 3195,- and € 4374,- per month (for a full-time appointment) based on scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) Dutch Universities. Researchers from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. The university will apply for such an allowance on their behalf. The university offers very good fringe benefits, such as an options model for terms and conditions of employment and excellent reimbursement of moving expenses.

This position is a tenure-track position but other candidates with more experience are also invited to apply.

Assistant Professor of Women's Studies

Goucher College seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in Women’s Studies beginning August 2012. Preferred candidates will have a specialization in American women and the intersections of race, sexuality, class, gender, and nationality. The successful candidate will teach three courses per year including Introduction to Women’s Studies, Feminist Theory, and American Women and Health. Other courses will be drawn from the candidate’s area of expertise.

 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or comparable terminal degree) in Women’s Studies, or a related discipline, at the time of appointment. We seek candidates with a dedication to student mentoring, ongoing scholarly research, a strong commitment to teaching and the liberal arts, and service to the department and college. Prior teaching experience is desired.
