National Convention of Youth Organizations
First National Preparatory Meeting held
National Convention of Youth Organizations is planned and to be held from 3rd December to 5th December 2010 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. 500 delegates from 250 youth organizations will participate in this three day Convention.
The Convention is hosted by National Youth Project, Antar Bharati, MP alongwith ICYO.
The first national level preparatory meeting was held on 13 July 2010 at Gandhi Bhavan, Bhopal and attended by the representatives of all three stockholder organizations. The meeting was chair by Dr. S. N. Subba Rao, Chairman, ICYO and Director, National Youth Project.
Dr Subba Rao said ‘we are all concern that India is suffering violence, poverty & unemployment, economic disparity, corruption, unhealthy habits etc’. He said as members of Youth Organizations, we together can contribute to make India a happy nation.
Mr Tapan Bhattayacharya of Antar Bharati, MP gave detail information about the local meetings held in Indore for preparation which was attended by many civil society organizations apart from social activist.
Mr Ravi Narayan and Mr Vijay Bharatiya from ICYO talk about the participation of ICYO network organizations in the convention. ICYO also create awareness of the event and invites the youth organizations those working for young people.
Dr. Mahendra Nagar of NYP suggests the issues to be focus in the Convention. Mr Safi Mohd Sheikh from Harmony Foundation also added their suggestion regarding the agenda.
Dr Subba Rao suggested for adding the issue related to International Year of Youth for discussion. Mr Vijay Bharatiya expected the discussion on draft National Youth Policy 2010,
The agenda of the convention is still open for discussion to add/remove issue(s) which directly concern with youth and nation.
This is expected that delegates discuss and chalk-out the action plan to make the India a peaceful nation; how can every young have the work/job; how to promote the healthy lifestyle of young people.
The next national level preparatory meeting will held in September 2010 and expert from different youth fields/issues are expected to join.
The youth organizations from India those are interested to send the delegates in the Convention may send the two names (gender balance to be maintained) to ICYO secretariat or write to ICYO for registration form.
New Youth Policy in Making
Rajiv Gandhi National Institute Of Youth Development (RGNIYD) has taken initiative to draft a New Youth Policy under the direction of Ministry of Youth and Sport. Over 42 representatives (including two ICYO representatives) from different sectors concerning youth came for the one day interaction on July 1, 2010 in New Delhi.

Secretary Youth Affairs called upon the delegates to deliberate the new policy
keeping the draft youth Policy of 2003 in mind, while inaugurating the meeting.
Earlier Mr P. Michael Siromony, Director of RGNIYD, gave a warm welcome to the
participants and brief background of the meeting.
Mr.Devendra Agochiya, Lead Consultant gave an overview presentation of the Draft proposed Framework for National Youth Policy and divided into groups for discussion.
The discussion basically focused on the Definition of youth, Target youth groups and the thrust areas. Many participants were of view that Draft of the National Youth Policy which never got implemented be the basic draft for reference for the new draft. The interesting element in the new youth policy is emphasis on Implementation strategies, Intended outcome, Agenda for action of all thrust areas.
ICYO will be circulating the revised draft for broader dialogue among the youth organizations. The local network youth organization in Gujarat is planning for a consultation on the youth policy bringing youth organizations in Gujarat together for a dialogue.
Later at end of the year in December, it is strong possibility (if final draft is ready) that the National Convention of Youth Organizations also review the same.
We would like to encourage other youth organizations to take lead in organizing local, state and the regional level consultation.
August 2010 happens to be launching of International Youth Year and Government plan to put this policy in the parliament this year, in winter session.
The ICYO represented by Mr Ravi Narayan and Mr. Vijay Bharatiya, other youth organizations present included Mr Chandra Shekhar Pran, Dirctor, Nehru Yuvak Kendra Sangathan, Mr P K Sahu, CYSD, Orissa, representatives of Pravah, Delhi; Chetna, Ahemdabad; Bharat Scout and Guide.
UNESCO Asian Youth Forum to be held in Gwangju
4th UNESCO Asian Youth Forum organized by the Korean National Commission for UNESCO (KNCU) and will be held at Chonnam National University in Gwangju, Republic of Korea from 7-11 September 2010.
The forum will allow participants to come together to tackle regional issues relevant to their communities and to support youth-led initiatives encompassing mutual respect and sustainable development in the region. Moreover, this regional youth forum will provide an opportunity to discuss new strategies in strengthening cooperation amongst youth networks in Asia.
The theme of the forum is Youth Creativity and Vision for Community in Asia.
The ICYO participated in earlier all three Forums and this is nominated Ms Surta Jani, to attend the UNESCO Asian Youth Forum.
Yatra to promote Peace, Social Harmony & Nation Building

Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) is conducting “Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Cycle Yatra” from its
campus to Kanyakumari. It was started on
3rd August and expected to finish on 15th
August 2010, the Seven RGNIYD University Students are participating in this 780
km long yatra.
The purpose of this Yatra is to promoting Peace, Social Harmony, Friendship; Environment preservation and Nation Building.
On the way cyclist are meeting the youth in schools, colleges and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathans.
Shri. P. Michael Vetha Siromony IAS, Director and Shri. C. R. Kesavan, Vice President of RGNIYD flag-off the rally on 3rd August 2010 from RGNIYD Campus.
The team visited Rajiv Gandhi Memorial and paid homage to late shri. Rajiv Gandhi before starting the yatra..
Dr. V. Reghu, Faculty Head and Dr. T. Gopinath, Training Officer of RGNIYD has supported the logistical arrangements and managing programme.
Love India Campaign Launched in Delhi
‘We, Indian continuously loosing the affection with our mother land, the main reason of need to launch the Love India Campaign’ said Dr S. N. Subba Rao while kick-off the campaign in New Delhi on 24th July 2010.
The Love India Campaign is launched in function held at Gandhi Peace Foundation in New Delhi and organized by Indraprasth Press Club of India alongwith National Youth Project.
Dr Rao further said “mostly Indian is engaged in love with their religion, community or themselves, but slowly-slowly, they get away from their responsibilities for their nation.”
Ms Radha Behan. Chair-person of Gandhi Peace Foundation, said that this is unfortunate for us that we have to launch such campaign after 60 year of independence. This should be continuing process.
Others those address included Shri Naredra Bhandari, Ms Ajali Bhatiya, Mr Naresh Gupta, Kenu Aggrawal, Sanjay Vashisht,Satish Sharma, Santosh Suryavansi, Rakesh Panwar from Indraprasth Press Club of India and attended by large number of social activities and youth.
Workshop
on “Dynamics of Child Sexual Exploitation
in the On-line
Environment”
ECPAT International is organizing the capacity building workshop and South Asia Regional Network Resource Exchange (RNRE) Meeting from 23rd – 25th August, 2010 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The overall theme of the event is the “Dynamics of Child Sexual Exploitation in the On-line Environment” and the first two days will be devoted on capacity building on theme and day three will be reserve for the ECPAT members to discuss.
The ECPAT members from India expected to attend the workshop and RNRE meeting including the ICYO and STOP from Delhi.
